Jessica Robertson Navarro
Director of Communications
Jessica Robertson Navarro is the director of the Office of Communications at the University of Houston C. T. Bauer College of Business. In this role, she leads all communication and marketing efforts to build brand awareness and reputation of UH Bauer and oversees a team of creative professionals who handle the college's Web site, printed publication, video production, photography, advertising, marketing and social media.
She manages the daily activities of the college's web developers, videographer, photographer, graphic designer, and interns. In addition, she writes press releases, brochure and ad copy, handles media inquiries from local, national and international media, and manages the social media presence of the college, using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other sites to monitor conversations and to share content about the college and its programs.
Jessica joined the UH Bauer College staff in September 2007. She earned a BA in communication with a major in print journalism and a minor in sociology from the University of Houston's Jack J. Valenti School of Communication in 2006. Before graduation, she began to work as a reporter for The Baytown Sun, a community newspaper serving a city of nearly 70,000 residents. As senior reporter, she covered government, education, business and a variety of other subjects before leaving The Baytown Sun in 2007.
As an undergraduate student at UH, Jessica worked as a writing consultant at the University of Houston Writing Center, where she taught small groups of students, including English as a Second Language students, in several sections of ENGL 1300. The job also required her to handle walk-in consultations from students in all programs at UH, including undergraduate, graduate and doctoral. Jessica was also a senior staff writer for The Daily Cougar from 2005-2006, covering administration, women's issues, international students and other subjects.
While working at Bauer College, Jessica completed the master's program in mass communication studies from the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication. Her graduate thesis was a qualitative study of communication practitioners, focusing on their perspectives of working directly with consumers to create brand messages online.
She is a recipient of the Bauer College Employee Merit Award.
