What is the Bauer College Alumni Association (BCAA)?

The Bauer College Alumni Association (BCAA) is a constituency group of the University of Houston Alumni Association (UHAA). BCAA was established in support of the C. T. Bauer College of Business and the University of Houston. We believe that the “Bauer Experience” should last a lifetime. This is why we work to strengthen the relationship among and between the 40,000 Bauer alumni, current students, business community, Bauer College of Business and the University of Houston. How does BCAA support Bauer College and the University of Houston?

BCAA works to build Cougar pride. We provide financial support by organizing fundraising activities like the annual Ted Bauer Golf Tournament and an Online Auction, from which the net proceeds fund student scholarships and endowments. BCAA members also participate in activities like student recruiting and career services events. For more information on BCAA, click here.

What is the relationship between UHAA and BCAA?

The University of Houston Alumni Association is an independent, nonprofit membership organization that collects dues to support UH alumni activities and publications. There are several constituency groups within UHAA, including the Bauer Alumni group, that exist to meet the diverse needs of the UH alumni population. Together, we work to increase overall membership, to provide quality events and programs, and to support the initiatives set forth by UH President & Chancellor, Dr. Renu Khator. For more information on BCAA, click here.

Where does BCAA get its funding?

For every Bauer alumnus who becomes a member of UHAA, Bauer Alumni receives a percentage of the annual dues paid to UHAA. We also raise money during the year through special events and fundraising programs. For more information on BCAA fundraising opportunities, click here.

How do I become a member of BCAA?

All graduates of Bauer College are eligible for membership in BCAA. Because we are a constituent organization of the University of Houston Alumni Association (UHAA), any Bauer alumnus who joins UHAA automatically becomes a card-carrying member of BCAA. How much does membership cost and what are the benefits? Do I have to be a Bauer alumnus to become a member?

  • Giving
I’m already a dues paying member of BCAA member; does that mean I’ve made a donation to support bauer college?

No. The University of Houston Alumni Association is an independent nonprofit organization. Membership dues paid to the Alumni Association are not considered contributions to Bauer College. Giving directly to the college supports the schools, units and programs that you care about most at Bauer.

As a donor, must I pay the full amount of a gift at once or can I make installment payments?

Pledge gifts can be paid in installments over a period of time. For example, a donor who makes a $1,000 pledge might choose to fulfill the commitment with two $500 payments over the course of a year. As another example, a donor who pledges $25,000 might have the option of completing the commitment over five years.

What does it cost to endow a scholarship?

Scholarships are a critical area of need for the University of Houston, and remain one of the most gratifying giving opportunities for our donors. It currently costs a minimum of $25,000 to fully endow a scholarship for one student.

Can I choose where to direct my gifts?

Yes, donors may choose to support any Bauer program, scholarship campaign, naming opportunity and many other areas in need of support.

If I can only make small contributions does this really help?

ABSOLUTELY! There are more than 40,000 men and women who have graduated from the C.T. Bauer College of Business. If every alum committed to donating just $10 a month, every month for a year, Bauer alumni would be responsible for raising nearly $5 million dollars each year! Small contributions, HUGE difference.

    What is a matching gift?

Many companies encourage their employees to make charitable contributions by matching their philanthropic support. At the University, donors receive credit for their employers’ matching gifts, meaning the match will also count towards your gift totals. The impact of corporate matching support can be enormous. Hundreds of companies have matching-gift programs. Please consult your human resources department to find out more information.

What are the tax benefits of making a gift to bauer college?

Most gifts are considered charitable contributions in whole or part. The fair market value of any goods or services (auction items, tickets, etc.) you receive in return for your gift are deducted from the gift amount. You should consult with your accountant for specific guidance on your gift. Contributions to the University of Houston are tax deductible by donors under IRS Code sections 170(b)(1)(A)(ii) and 170(b)(1)(A)(v).
