Q. Favorite Course:

My favorite course was my introduction to computing class I took my freshman year. I enjoyed this course because it was project oriented. Coming in, students were expected to think critically and essentially become problem solvers. I enjoyed working with different teams on projects related to energy and future technology.

Q. When I'm not in class, I stay involved on campus with:

I like to stay involved in my role as a corresponding secretary within National Association of Black Accountants. I also serve as a tutor for the Cougars and Houston Area Math Program (CHAMPS). Besides that, I always look for opportunities to volunteer through MVP and at the Houston Food Bank.

Q. I'm proud to be a Ted Bauer Undergraduate Business Scholar because:

It has showed me that hard work pays off. In addition, it shows me that the Bauer school I’m a part of really cares about Its students and our success.

Q. After I graduate, I hope to:

I hope to enter the work force as a systems analyst providing people and businesses with technology solutions. Ultimately, I would like to climb the ranks and serve as a partner or CIO within a consulting firm.

Organizations! I stay involved with being a part of Children International at UH, MISSO, and the Ted Bauer Leadership Certificate Program.

Q. I'm proud to be a Ted Bauer Undergraduate Business Scholar because:

This has given me the best undergraduate experience I could possibly ask for, allowing me to fully participate in everything I could never have prior to this. This scholarship depicts how truly invested I am into Bauer and the pride I have for being a part of this amazing school.

Q. After I graduate, I hope to:

Climb the corporate ladder with my MIS or Finance background. Alongside this, I plan to eventually become an actuary. Referring to my previous answer, I have always enjoyed statistics so becoming an actuary just seems like the perfect fit after a few years.

I was the vice president of Bauer Women’s Society last semester and I love being a part of student organizations.

Ever since I moved to Houston and came to Bauer there have been so many great opportunities that have opened up such as being a student organization leader for three semesters, working at Bauer, and making many friends that have turned into family. And getting this scholarship shows how hard work pays off.

I am very interested in the fashion and retail industry and I would like to have a supply chain role at companies like Ross, TJ Maxx, Nike, and many more.

I have been involved in SPB by volunteering in their entertainment activities, and marketing runs. Recently, I joined MISSO, so I like to go to their professional events as well.

It makes me believe that hard work truly has no substitute and this scholarship will help me pursue my goals, and further my efforts in getting involved in campus. It is such a humbling experience because I also get to meet people who have also achieved this same award.

The different leadership and career workshops that the University offers. Participating in different events with the Bauer Women Society. Going to the recreation center, working out and swimming.

It allows me to pursue many of the different opportunities that are offered to enhance my leadership skills and learning experience. The scholarship has helped me to be actively involved with different organizations and spend more time taking advantage of school and study time. Also, I feel honored to be a part of a great cohort of individuals who share the same dreams of being successful and giving back to the community, and who understand that; it is not where you come from, but where you are headed to.

My favorite class was Accounting 2331--this class exposed me to the basics of accounting and the professor was very passionate of what she taught and this made me love accounting and ultimately led me to choose my career.

I have been involved as a member in student organizations like Beta Alpha Psi where I volunteer and participate in office visits. I have plans to keep doing this and join more leadership opportunities.

This scholarship demonstrates how hard I have worked and I am honored to be part of this group of scholars who like me give their all to accomplish their goals. It also gives me the opportunity to keep focusing on my academics knowing that there will not be a financial barrier.

I hope to work as an auditor at a public accounting firm, but first graduate with my Master’s in Accounting from the University of Houston as well as obtain my CPA. I want to not only be one more accountant in the industry but the accountant that other young girls can look at and have hope that one day they too will have the career of their dreams.

My student organizations: Accounting Society, MISSO, SPO, Model United Nations. I also work on campus at the Law Center and play intramural cricket and soccer.

This scholarship opens up a great deal more for me to be able to excel at school and further pursue my ultimate goals. I feel as though the hard work I have put into my education is paying off for the better.

Pursue a career in the actuarial science field. I’ve learned that I love statistics and data, and want to have a successful future in that. I also intend to stay quite committed to the University of Houston and to Bauer in particular. I’ve met many, many alumni that have given back to the school and I hope I can give back just as they have.

So far, my favorite course is STAT 3331. Since the class is so challenging I went into it thinking I’d barely pass, but I was able to pull an A! It is my favorite because I proved to myself that I could work through anything.

Q. When I'm not in class, I stay involved on campus with:

I stay involved on campus as a member of the Spirit of Houston Marching Band 3-4 times a week. I’ll be at the stadium practicing or marching at a football game. I am also a member of the American Marketing Association.

Being a Scholar means that I have lived up to my potential and the expectations placed on me as a child. I will be the first one in my family to receive a degree from a four-year university, which is what my parents always wanted for me. I am also proud because I can set a good example for my brother and other younger family members as well.

I hope to find a job at an advertising firm that will allow me to learn all aspects of the company, especially design. I would like to gain enough experience to ensure success on my future entrepreneurial path, and eventually start and run my own firm.

My favorite course so far has been MARK 3336 with Dr. Kacen. Though I am just taking it this semester, I feel like I’ve learned a lot of useful tools that will help me in my future career.

My student org, AMA! This is my second semester as a fundraising committee leader. It completely changed my point of view here at UH. I have made lots of great friends that I likely would not have met otherwise, and I want to encourage more people to join student organizations for the same reason.

I'm proud of all that Bauer does for its students. I could not be prouder to represent the college because I only hope to embody what Bauer stands for.

Being the president of the Hispanic Business Student Association for the Fall 2017 semester, working as a student front desk associate for the Rockwell Career Center, and showing Bauer Pride through volunteering at Bauer Tours.

To be recognized by Bauer as a Scholar is such an honor. I am very lucky to attend a college that empowers students to excel in their careers, become community leaders, and future executives of tomorrow. It means so much to me that my college recognizes my work and passion, this scholarship has changed my undergraduate career completely.

Q. After I graduate, I hope to:

I hope to continue my career in a public accounting firm and to obtain my CPA. Through obtaining my CPA, I hope to give back to the Houston community by empowering students who are at risk to understand financial literacy and help them see college as an option. I also seek to continue being involved in the Association of Latino Professionals for America to continue networking and collaborating with aspiring professionals.

Along with volunteering with youth in my local church, I play guitar, bass, and piano in my church praise band. I am passionate about my faith, and passionate about music. I also love to bowl and have joined the Cougar Bowling Club’s tournament team.

I am humbled by this great honor. My reason for joining college late in life was to become more valuable to employers so that I could provide better for my family. I have also used this experience to be an academic example for my children. I never imagined that I would be blessed by this great program. Receiving this scholarship has encouraged me and my efforts, and has shown my children what hard work can accomplish.

It is my intention to apply to Perkin’s School of Theology at Southern Methodist University to earn a master’s degree in divinity. I will be applying to the candidacy for ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church.

It is really helping me with my college expenses and also it is providing us with two more advisors we can go to if we have anything to discuss regarding our careers or classes. After getting this scholarship now I feel like I have more time to spend focusing on my education solely rather than having to worry about monetary problems which is indeed a blessing. Now I feel more valued.

Initially start with public accounting firms and then eventually move to corporate accounting. But I have yet to decide which industry I would want to move into and I am currently working on that.

Intermediate I with Professor Kilic. It’s an accounting course right after Frameworks. I love the way Kilic teaches the subject because he simplifies it to where you can understand accounting and enjoy working out the problems.

The Accounting Society. I’m currently the VP of AS and have been with them for 4 semesters now. I highly recommend joining an organization because you not only get to network with professionals but you get to meet other students who are on the same page as you. It’s also a great opportunity to make lifelong friends.

I hope to really make a difference in the world someday either through conservation or humanity efforts, so when that happens I would like for people to go back through my life and know where that change was made. MARK 3337 (Professional Selling) – This course has really helped me learn more about how to prepare myself for the business world. I’ve learned a lot of soft skills and how to brand myself. Frameworks – Professor Harris was a great professor! This class really help set the foundation for my accounting knowledge. I learned how to effectively study after this class.

I get to be more involved with school activities and join more student organizations. I don’t’ like have to work as much as before and constantly worry about where to get me money to pay for my school costs.
