Leadership Initiatives

Businesses that are successful and sustainable are built on a relationship of trust between the company and its customers, and the employees and the leaders of the organization. That is the reason the UH Bauer College of Business integrates values-based leadership into all that we do-to the way we teach finance and accounting principles, to courses devoted specifically to leadership development at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and to experiential activities that focus on the vital importance of values-based leadership. The faculty members in the Bauer College are also actively involved in conducting research to better understand effective leadership at the individual, group and corporate levels. We believe that students who attend UH Bauer College will leave with a unique strength, namely a clear understanding of what it means to lead and make decisions based on the shared values of integrity and professional conduct.

Why Leadership?

Values-based leadership development is an integral part of the culture and curriculum at UH Bauer College. In addition to a world-class education, UH Bauer students develop their potential to become leaders who will shape the future of business and the community, locally and globally.

Excerpts from executive MBA student journals for leadership development courses:

Never before (this course) had I stopped to think differently about how I would handle difficult situations at work. The readings and lectures were something I could actually implement immediately and improve upon in the future.

The speaker we had in class was very inspiring. He definitely carried the ‘executive presence’ that I find quite rare. I will definitely try to emulate those qualities: personable, professional, caring, credible, honest, courageous and integrity.

I honestly would not have even thought to put things into this type of perspective if I had not been exposed to (this course). I would probably have blamed corporate, not taken any ownership for what was going on and would have failed to be positive about any of it.

In the course of the past eight weeks, I believe my leadership skills have improved dramatically. I have an action plan to complete over the course of the next nine months. Does it stop there? Absolutely not!
