Jaana Porra

Bio

Jaana Porra, Ph.D., M.Sc., MBA, is an Associate Professor at the department of Decision and Information Sciences at the University of Houston, C.T. Bauer College of Business in Houston, Texas, USA. Jaana Porra is an IS historian. She has written IS history: The story of the nearly five decades of the Texaco IT function. She has interpreted this history using a systems theoretical lens. She has written about IS history. She has written about the historical research method in IS research. She has published in journals such as Information Systems Research, Management Information Systems Quarterly, Journal of the Association for the Information Systems, Journal of Information Technology, and Information Systems Journal. Prior to her academic career, she worked in the IS industry in Finland as a systems analyst, senior analyst, IT project manager, strategic IS consultant, and as the CEO of an IS consulting firm. Prior to joining the faculty at C.T. Bauer, she served on the faculties of the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Southern California, and the University of Texas at Austin. She has served on the council of the Association for Information Systems as the elected Americas representative. She is a recipient of the Executive Service Corps (2010) Community Service Award in recognition of completing over 100 community service projects with her students in order to improve the information systems of the non-profit organizations of the Houston metropolitan area. She is a recipient of the University of Houston Teaching Excellence Award in Community Engagement (2010-11)and the recipient of the Journal of the Association for Information Systems Best Paper Award (2015).
