Electronic Data Interface (EDI) is a standard format for exchanging transactions such as orders, invoices or payment information.
EDI defines the format of each document as records and fields
When two organizations use EDI, they can exchange business
transactions automatically, directly between their information systems
(e.g., an invoice is transmitted from the company A’s invoice system
to company B’s accounts payable system. No paper exchanges hands.
