Assembly Operations Before 1984
When cars were built in Assembly Operations prior to 1984, plant employees called stockchasers counted daily, all parts needed for that days assembly schedule.
They generated material shortage tickets for materials in short supply and telephoned Assembly Production Control at PP&MC to alert them to potential shortages.
Suppliers had from midnight to midnight to ship materials to the Chrysler assembly plants ==> managers overstocked materials to prevent shortages.
==> managers created several different types of inventory between the supplier and assembly plants: work-in-progress inventory, cycle inventory, current shipping inventory
