Improving LAN Performance
Mostly, improving LAN performance = increasing throughput
Rule of Thumb: A LAN is only as fast as its slowest component (=bottleneck).
The only way to improve performance is to find the bottleneck and eliminate it.
Upgrading any other part of the network will have no impact on performance.
Bottlenecks move: Once you fix the bottleneck, some other component becomes one.
Generally, bottlenecks occur in two places: Computers and Circuits
How to find it? By monitoring. (e.g.,If server utilization is high during poor performance (60-100%) the server is the bottleneck.)
