Fast Packet Multiplexing (FPM) is an advanced form of statistical time division multiplexing that combines voice, video, and data transmissions.
- typically high transmission rates (1-2 Mbps)
- priority transmission (e.g., send voice always first and fast)
- to achieve speed repetitive characters and gaps are removed from the message
- character sensitive transmissions (e.g., X-rays, motion pictures!!!)
