Special Purpose Communication Devices
Line Adapters perform specific tasks or allow interconnection of terminals or microcomputers to a host mainframe computers in many types of configurations
- 1. Line Interface Module enables users to connect to more than one network and switch between them without plugging and unplugging any connectors or cables
- 2. Port sharing device allows incoming
- communication circuits to use a single port on a front end processor (used to exceed the FEP capacity short term)
- 3. Line splitters are like port sharing devices except in that they are located at the remote end of the communications circuit (a switch which allows several terminals to connect to a single modem)
