Greetings,
As we celebrate the start of another fall semester and a new academic year at the Bauer College, I wanted to take a moment to welcome those of you who are first-time Bauer students and also to welcome back all of our returning students. I hope that you have the opportunity over the next few weeks to explore the campus and to participate in some of the upcoming events designed to help you navigate the college and make the most of your time here.
To make the most of your time at Bauer, please visit with your academic advisors and career counselors, talk to your professors, join a student organization and attend our events. And, when you’re online, you can visit a resource especially for Bauer students called WhereAwesomeHappens.com, a website with curated content on the college’s events, news and more. Here, you will find information about upcoming events and opportunities for Bauer students, along with photos, videos and other coverage of the things you are doing throughout the semester.
You will no doubt begin to notice all of the references to “Where Awesome Happens” within Bauer College materials, both online and in print. This statement has become our rallying cry, and I want you to know that it is not something that a team of experts created. No, rather, it was shared with us by Bauer students, and in our minds, that makes it an even more “awesome” phrase to describe the energy of our students.
You are a Bauer student at a very exciting time in our college’s history. Our college now occupies three buildings on campus, and we continue to enhance our curriculum in response to student and employer needs. Bauer College truly is your college — for us, everything we do begins and ends with student success in mind. I am energized when you all do well, when you are applauded, when you get jobs and when you succeed. You generate the fabric of the Bauer College story, and all of us within the college are committed to making your experience here valuable. As the University of Houston continues to reach new heights, and the Bauer College solidifies its place as a resource for the business community, know that it certainly will mean something positive when you go into the job market with a degree from Bauer. Your alumni network is nearly 60,000 strong, and I encourage you to tap into those connections now while you’re a student. Let the world know that as a Bauer student, you have joined the ranks of a community of leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs.
I hope to see you at one of our upcoming events, including the September 30 installment of the Distinguished Leaders Series (featuring TransCanada Senior Vice President for Energy Strategy & Development Dean Ferguson) as well as the October 15 Inspiring Minds event (featuring Potbelly Sandwich Works Chairman, President and CEO Aylwin Lewis, a 1990 alumnus of the Bauer MBA program). These events are free to attend and designed to give you, our students, the opportunity to hear from industry leaders and network with business professionals.
Also, be sure to read the latest news at www.bauer.uh.edu. If you have ideas for how we can improve your experience as a student, please contact me at suggestions@bauer.uh.edu so that we can get your feedback. You can also follow me on Twitter (@UHBauerDean) as well to keep in touch.
I look forward to hearing from you over the next year and seeing your success stories in action.
Sincerely and with warm regards,
Latha Ramchand
