Mesohippus ('middle horse') is a three-toed horse predecessor approximately the size of an adult collie dog and weighed about 75 pounds. The two teeth in the bottom left are from the lower jaw. The fossil was found about six miles south-southwest of Scenic, South Dakota off Bombing Range Road. Scenic South Dakota is 41 miles southeast of Rapid City, South Dakota. Collected 1998. | |

These fossile were found found in the ditches and fields and roadsides in Leander Texas.
They lay horizontally and can be seen in the pastures on the surface and are often fractured by cattle hooves.
