and another son after her brother, James Howell Cook.
In the 1920 US Federal Census, William C. Coker is living with his wife
and children in Buncombie (now Loganville), Walton Co., GA.

So notice that William Castleberry (aka "Berry" on the tombstone) is listed as the son of
William Henry Bankston Coker. But the Castleberry name doesn't come from the Coker side but from
Rennie F (francis?) Johnson eldest daughter of Castleberry Johnson.
Further the father listed for William Castleberry Coker is "William Henry Bankston Coker "Junior"
born 25 Mar 1852 in Walton County, Georgia and died 2 Feb 1922 in Walton County, Georgia
who is the son of William Henry Bankston Coker "Senior" (1812-1893) and Martha Holloway.
This "junior" married Rennie F. (Francis) Johnson daughter of Castleberry Johnson.
Most genealogies have Rennie marrying "William Henry Bankston Coker Junior" in 1873 (Age 16)
and she dies in 1896.
So, Nancy is the grandmother of William Castleberry Coker.

After arriving from England, members of the Benefield-Bedingfield family made their
way to Wake County, NC in 1774. His grandson Needham Benefield grew up on a
plantation about ten miles east of Raleigh, NC. Needham and his wife, Mary Rogers,
left North Carolina living in several counties of Georgia before eventually
settling in Randolph County, Alabama by 1850. Needham was a farmer and a bareknuckle
prize fighter. While living in Heard County, Georgia in 1836, Needham and his
neigbors sent a letter to the Govenor of Georgia concerning the organization of a
special Battalion to guard against the Indians of Heard County. At this period of
time there were numerous stories whether real or not about Indians raids along
the Alabama and Georgia state lines.

The Simon Moon House, in Fallsington, PA, built in the 1700s
In the 1740s Simon and his family moved to a new Quaker settlement in Frederick County, VA, now Berkeley
Co, WV. There they belonged to the Hopewell Friends meeting. Sometime after February 1748, some say in
November, Simon died at his farm in Arden. His wife Lowrey preceded him in death. The Quakers kept careful
records, but the minute books for the years 1734-1759 were lost when a fire destroyed the home where they w
ere kept. Simon and Lowrey are presumably buried at the Hopewell burial ground, with plain fieldstones
marking the graves, as was the custom there at the time.
Not long after Simon's death, two of his married daughters, Hannah Moon Brown and Margaret Moon
Brown, moved with their husbands to help found a new Quaker settlement along the Cane Creek in "Orange County,"
NC, near what is now Snow Camp, Alamance County.

Simon's will, from the Frederick County, Virginia Will Book, Vol. 1, page 238:
In the name of God Amen. I Simon Moon of the county of Frederick & Colony of Virginia yeoman being at present
very sick & weak in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto God therefore calling unto mind the
mortality of my body & knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this my last will
& testament in manner & form following that is to say
First & principally I recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it & for my body I recommend it to
the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors hereafter named nothing doubting but at
the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such
worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I leave & bequeath as followeth.
Imprimis It is my will & I do order that in the first place all my just debts & funeral charges be paid and
discharged
Item I leave my present dwelling plantation to be equally divided betwixt my 2 sons James & Jacob Moon.

Thomas Brown historic log house built in the 1740s in the Shenandoah Valley near present-day Inwood,
Berkeley, WV. At that time this this was part of Frederick County, Virginia.
The house is built of large logs, 16 or 17 inches wide and hewn on two sides. The 1-1/2-story structure
measures about 23 feet (7.0 m) by 29 feet (8.8 m) in the original block, a log west wing about 16 feet
(4.9 m) by 21 feet (6.4 m), and a frame east wing about 16 feet (4.9 m) by 20 feet (6.1 m). The central
block has two large stone chimneys. The logs are clad with weatherboards. The central block has two rooms
downstairs. The wings are a single room downstairs and upstairs. The front and rear elevations feature
gun ports cut into the logs, high in the walls.
Also on the property are a log meat house, a stone springhouse and a frame privy. The house was placed on
the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

State of Georgia } I Nathan Dobbs of the County & state aforesaid hereby declare that I
Jackson County } enlisted in the continental line in the army of the Revolution for & during
the war under the command of Colonel William Washington of the light Dragoons of the Virginia
line, & in Capt [Churchill] Jones Company, that I enlisted in said service soon after
the battle known as Gates' defeat, & continued in the service untill its termination at
which period I was a private in said Capt Jones Company in the aforesaid Regiment of the
Virginia line I further declare that I was not on the fifteenth day of May 1828 on the

On this 8 day of October 1833 personally appeared before the
Judges of the Inferior Court for said State & County Nathan Dobbs
a resident in the County of Gwinnett & State of Georgia aged seventy three years who being first
duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain
the benefit of the provisions made by the act of Congress passed June 7 1832.
For three months that is from May 1780 to August 1780 I served the United States as
volunteer Militia Man under Capt Roberts at that time or at time of entering said service I
lived in Henry County Virginia. I first marched to Hillsborough N.C. [Gen. Horatio] Gates was
General when I arrived at head quarters in Hillsborough I then marched to Rudgeley's Bridge
[sic: Rugeley's Mill] near
Camden there I fought & our forces were defeated -- the Militia being completely defeated I
marched back to Henry County Vir. -- For four months that is from September 1780 to January
1781 [sic: see note below]
I served the United States as a substitute in a Militia company under
Capt. Edwards I entered the service in Henry County Virginia. I marched from Henry County to
Hillsborough N.C. there our company joined Gen. Greens army I then marched with the Army
to near Camden S.C. and there fought the British and our forces were repulsed
From there I was marched to ninety six & from thence our Army retreated to Dan River in
Virginia at that place the Army was reinforced & there recrossed the said River & marched to
Guilford C.H. where I fought against Cornwallis army which soon after retreated I then marched
to Pee dee River when my four Months expired
I then enlisted for during the War under Capt Jones into a company of Cavalry and was attached
to Colo Washington Reg't some time elapsed before I was mounted when mounted I was
marched to near the Eutaw Springs & when the battle was fought there I was one of the Baggage
Guard. After the battle of Eutaw I was marched to Little York in Virg & was at the taking of
Cornwallis [19 Oct 1781] from thence I was marched back to South Carolina where I was
variously employed till the British evacuated Charleston [14 Dec 1782] I was then marched into
Charleston under Coll. Bailey. from Charleston I was marched to the Congaree River & from
thence to Richmond in Virginia a part of our company went by water & the rest by land. I went
by land & before I arrived in Richmond Capt Jones had discharged the men that went with him &
had left the place some 8 or 10 of the men together with myself then went to Fredericksburgh
[sic: Fredericksburg] & a Sergeant Major (William Dangerfield) went to Winchester (having heard
that Gen. [Daniel] Morgan was there) for further orders & said Sergeant Major returned with a
paper stating that the government had no further use for us and that was all the discharge I
received. This was in the Fall of 1783. the length of time which I served as an enlisted soldier
was two years & 8 or 9 months or more. And I hereby relinquish every claim to a pension or
annuity except the present & he declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any agency
in any state.
And deponent further swears that he was born in Henry County Virginia in the year
1760 [sic: Henry County formed from Pittsylvania County in 1766] that he has no record of his
age And that John G. Park Esq. Rev'd Hosea Camp Archie R. Smith Esq Coll N. L. Hutchins &
every other person with whom he is acquainted will testify as to his character for veracity.

I would like to share some info on my research of the children of my great great great
grandfather and grandmother James and Anna Armstrong Dobbs. They had nine children-three
sons and six daughters. James Dobbs was the son of Lott Dobbs and was born in Franklin
County, Georgia in 1796, the first of my ancestors to be born in Georgia.
The oldest son was my great great grandfather, Nelson E. Dobbs who was born on January 16, 1816
in Franklin County, Ga. He married Sarah Buckalew on May 27, 1834 in Cherokee County, Ga. while
living there near his father, James Dobbs and his family and his sister, Elizabeth Dobbs Leach
and her family and his uncles Balaam and Burwell Dobbs and thier families. On the 1840 US census
Balaam, Burwell, Nelson and Elijah Leach are all listed on the same page of the Cherokee County,
Ga. census. In 1850 Nelson Dobbs is listed on the 1850 US census living next door to his widowed
mother in law Mary Buckalew and five of her children and two grandchildren in Hall County, Ga..
Nelson Dobbs has seven children listed on this census. The Nelson Dobbs family is listed on the US
census and the Ga Confederate census in the 1860's in Gwinnett County and in 1870 they are listed
on the US Census in Newton County and in 1880 on the US census in Dekalb County, Ga. Nelson Dobbs
purchased a farm near Wesley Chapel and Browns Mill Roads in Dekalb County, Ga. where he died on
June 14, 1894. He and Sarah Buckalew Dobbs are buried at the old Wesley Chapel Methodist Cemetery
near their farm along with several of their daughters and husbands of their daughters.
They had nine children:

One of the last "Dobbs reunions" was held for the descendants of Nelson and Sarah Ann
Buckalew Dobbs on August 29, 1954. In an article from the Dekalb New Era newspaper
about this reunion the paper says "These children have reared their families along
the same lines of precept and example which they inherited from their ancestors who
put their faith in God and did good by their fellowship and the communities in which
they lived." Thanks to Grandpa and Grannie Dobbs for the examples they were for their
children and their childrens children, etc.
All of James and Anna Armstrong Dobbs children:

Edmund W. R. Dobbs served in the 42nd Regiment of the Georgia Volunteers from Newton
County during the Civil War and was wounded at Renca, Ga. and Nashville, Tenn in 1864 and
surrendered at Greensboro, N. C. in April 1865.
Three of the daughters married three Cole brothers. One of these daughters was said to
have worn a size 2 shoe.
Two of the Cole brothers died in the Civil War.
It was great to learn that these Dobbs widows moved to homes near their brothers.
One of the daughters Mary Ann Dobbs who married J. M. Cole was buried in the Hendrix Cemetery
in Hall County, Ga. near the graves of James and Anna Armstrong Dobbs and when Lake Lanier was
build all their graves were moved to the New Bethany Baptist Church cemetery near Lake Lanier
Islands and their tombstones are now located there. I have written down the info about each
of the children the info I have found and would be glad to share it with anyone interested.

- Frederick Buckalew Sr. Born in 1676 in Staten Is., Richmond Co., NY. At the age of <1, Frederick was baptized in Dutch Ref. Ch., NY City (?), Staten Is., Richmond Co., NY, on 30 August 1676. Frederick died in Perth Amboy, Middlesex Co, NJ, before 31 October 1754; he was 78. Occupation: Carpenter / Constable (24 Aug 1718).
- George Buckalew. Born in 1698 in Perth Amboy, Middlesex Co, NJ. George died in Perth Amboy, Middlesex Co, NJ, on 3 December 1739; he was 41.
- Richard Buckalew Sr. Born in 1716 in Cheesequakes Creek, NJ. At the age of 23, Richard was baptized in Perth Amboy, Middlesex Co, NJ, on 10 November 1739. Richard died in Edgefield Dist., SC, in March 1782; he was 66
- George Buckalew. Born about 1744 in Edgefield Co., SC. George died before 1806; he was 62.
Richard (above) and sons George (above) and Richard were Loyalist soldiers in the South Carolina in Col John Cotten's Regiments, Stevenson Creek Militia, Ninety Six Brigade. George also served in the King's Rangers.
- Elijah Parks Buckalew Sr. Born about 1785 in TN. Elijah Parks died in Hall Co., GA., before 1850; he was 65.
- Sarah Ann Buckalew. Born on 25 September 1815 in SC. Sarah Ann died in DeKalb Co., GA,
on 1 March 1901; she was 85. Buried in Wesley Chapel.
On 27 May 1834 when Sarah Ann was 18, she married Nelson Dobbs, in Franklin Co., GA. Born on 16 January 1816 in GA.
Nelson died in DeKalb Co., GA, on 21 May 1894; he was 78. - Nancy Elizabeth Dobbs. Born on 4 June 1839. Nancy Elizabeth died on 22 October 1894; she was 55.
Nancy Elizabeth married William O'shields, in GA.
