Several ancestry.com genealogies list him as John W RAmsey who married Sabra Jane Crowder
and had three kids (1880) then abruptly disappears
I cannot find this John anywhere EXCEPT the 1880 census
He could be divorced and remaaired in the twenty years between 1880 and 1900
NOT EXCLUDED
Of the list of the 5 John Ramsey's on the 1850/1860/1870 censuses of western NC, only one "John W Ramsey" appears (above as son of Thomas J. Ramsey of Cleveland County NC).
The name Wesley is specifically used on some death records
Based on the stated birth [place of Rutherford NC, there is this Ramsey in Rutherford in 1830:
Alexander Ramsey:
An Alexander Ramsey appears on the 1860 Cleveland NC Census age 62 b SC, wife Agnes age 60 (pg 121/257).
Son Alex age 20, Dau Cynthia age 21. These same 4 people appear in Cleveland County in 1850. Alexander and Agnes m. 1820 Rutherford NC
But NO Thomas appears on Alexander's will. Further Alexander had a son named Thomas "Jefferson" Ramsey who died in 1855
making it very unlikely that he has a son Thomas killed in the Civil War in 1863.
"There is a Will that mentions the following Children
The children of Celia Pannell Ramsey Hamrick, wife of Berry Hamrick, widow of Jefferson Ramsey, 3 Children, Grandison S Ramsey, Sarah Jane Ramsey Bridges wife of J. M.
Bridges, and Martin Pannell Ramsey.
John Ramsey and his son John (Preston) Ramsey
They resided in South Carolina.
The Children of Langdon Ramsey including Henry Ramsey
Cynthia Ramsey Brooks, 1st wife of Andrew Brooks."
See this: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=28425157
So we can EXCLUDE ALEXANDER RAMSEY as Thomas' father
Thomas J Ramsey appears on pg (61/257) in 1860 Cleveland NC census
Delia Rosanna Ramsey who married John Wesley Ramsey was living in Burke (daughter of
Daniel Ramsey (1809 Person NC- ) and Mary Huffman (1823-0 )
Counties:
As Cleveland was formed from Rutherford in 1841, Thomas Ramsey's statement that he was born in Rutherford
in 1828 makes sense -- he didn't have to move to change counties
Delia Rosanna Ramsey must have moved to Lincoln from Burke after her marriage to John Wesley Ramsey.
So we would expect to find John Wesley Ramsey in Lincoln having moved from Cleveland sometimes after 1860.

Information from Burke County Historical Society Publication
Samuel Hoffman born in the year 1747 came with his parents to America in 1749.
In 1778 he married Barbara Moser and they moved to Burke County, North Carolina.
They settled along the banks of the Henry River approximately two miles west
of the Henry River bridge on Highway #18 south of Morganton. During
the Revolutionary War on October 2 1780, Samuel joined Colonel McDowell's band
of mountaineers as they passed near his home on the old Laurel Road. They were
going south to meet and do battle with a British force under Major Patrick Ferguson.
Five days later they joined the Battle of Kings Mountain with other patriots
from Virginia and the carolinas to annihilate Ferguson's Army. Samuel Hoffman
living in a remote section of the county was a man of high attributes, undaunted
courage, and admired by his neighbors. Dying at the early age of sixty-three years,
he was buried near his home in the Hildebrand graveyard.
There is a book on the Hoffamn family in the Burke County Public Library, Morgantown NC:
"The Hoffmans of North Carolina" by Max Ellis Hoffman, 1938,
Samuel Hoffmans story is also told in:
"Samuel Hoffman served under Colonel Joseph McDowell in his drive to Gilbert Town
and Kings Mountain to capture Ferguson's British Army. He was a patriotic citizen,
also well known for his honesty and stability, and many high tributes ..."
found in "North Carolina: the Old north state and the new, Volume 4", pages 463-437.
by Archibald Henderson, 1941.
This book is also in the Burke Public Library.

Surely she is a descendant of one of the many SMITH marriages listed in the
posting. Jemima is caucasian by the way.
It would be my guess she was born in the 1830s and probably died 1913-1918

LDS site Says that Minor Winn (Wynn) SMITH was born a.1782 Loudoun County, VA. He died 1852 in Cleveland County, NC.I am looking for my g grandmother Jemima SMITH in the Counties West of the Catawba to no avail. She was born a. 1830s and died by my guess prior to WWI. she had my Grandfather Thomas Augustus SMITH in 1873 in Shelby Twp of Cleveland County.
Minor's parents were Clator SMITH, Jr. and Mary HAMRICK both of Loudoun County, Virginia; which was the place of their birth and death.
I don't know, maybe Minor never married. Sure would like to comeup with some additional information about Jemima
From: "Ray H. Smith"
On page 94 in Summers Twp. in 1870 Caldwell County Census there are two
Jemima SMITHs. Might I ask for the head of household and the ages for the
Jemimas. Then on the 1900 Caldwell County Census page 159, dwelling 91 there is a
Jemima SMITH listed also. Here again need to know the head of household and
the age of this Jemima. Could this one be one of the two noted on the 1870
Census? Trying to find my ggrandmother who roamed the Counties West of the
Catawba River. She had three children James P. SMITH b. 15 May 1859;
Elizabeth TUCKER b. abt. 1862; Thomas Augustus SMITH b. 15 August 1873.
Would any of these Jemimas be of childbearing during this time span?

The above three sons are the children of Elizabeth "Lizzie" TUCKER- daughter of Alice aka Jemima SMITH and John TUCKER both of Burke County and George Washington "Wash" ABERNATHY. This couple lived in Burke County. I believe Lizzie died in the Silver Creek Twp of the County in January of 1931. This couple is buried in the Hildebran First Baptist Church Cemetery in Hildebran, NC.
Are there great -or- grand children of J. Daniel, William Robert, or Foster Robert ABERNATHY that would be willing to exchange whatever information is available about Alice aka Jemima SMITH? She is also the mother of my grandfather Thomas Augustus SMITH. 1873-1950 who is buried here in Cherryville, NC.
Thank You.

I found in my old notes Jemima SMITH born June 9, 1840 place unknown. Her name appears immediately underneath the name Thomas C. SMITH. Could Jemima have been the daughter of Thomas C.? She named one of her base born sons Thomas Augustus SMITH-my grandfather.
There is no paper trail for Jemima other than her name being on the death certificate of her daughter Elizabeth "Lizzie" Tucker ABERNATHY. "Lizzie" was the wife of G. W. "Wash" ABERNATHY and was a resident of Burke Co., NC.

The child was a daughter Elizabeth "Lizzie" who married G. W."Wash"

Is there on record of a SKIDMORE male impregnating a WILLIAMS female in Surry County, NC in about 1790?
There were only two SKIDMORE Families in the 1790 Census. One having the given name of John whom I suspect or one of his sons. The other being Abram Skidmore.
There were Six (6) WILLIAMS Families listed in this Census who's given names were John (3) in number, Joseph, Moses, and lastly Thomas WILLIAMS. I can only speculate tht a daughter of one of the John's is the unwed mother.
If there is someone out there that has some knowledge of this "please" contact me. I am in Gaston County, NC.
Thank you for reading this far.

Compiled Military Service Record
Private Company G 58th North Carolina Infantry
"The 58th Infantry Regiment was organized in Mitchell County, North Carolina, in July,
1862. Its twelve companies were recruited in the counties of Mitchell, Yancey,
Watauga, Caldwell, McDowell, and Ashe. In September it moved to Cumberland Gap and
spent the winter of 1862-1863 at Big Creek Gap, near Jacksboro, Tennessee. The 58th
participated in the campaigns of the Army of Tennessee from Chickamauga to Atlanta ,
guarded prisoners at Columbia, Tennessee, during Hood's operations, then moved to
South Carolina and skirmished along the Edisto River. Later it returned to North
Carolina and saw action at Bentonville . It lost 46 killed and 114 wounded at
Chickamauga, totalled 327 men and 186 arms in December, 1863, and took about 300
effectives to Bentonville. The unit was included in the surrender on April 26, 1865."
The northern colonies were becoming increasingly overcrowded and much of the better land had been settled. To the south was a
milder climate and cheaper land, especially inland areas. There were only two ways to travel to the southern colonies in those
days, either sailing by ship or by traveling overland on the Great Wagon Road from Philadelphia, through the Shenandoah Valley,
over the Blue Ridge and into North Carolina. Philip traveled over this land route, which was more like what we today would call
a trail than a road. Philip ended up in Salisbury, North Carolina, as a young teenager. One of the many Great Wagon Road
branch trails, once used by buffalo and Indians exclusively, directly passed by the area that is now Gaston County, North
Carolina. In Philip's day it was Tryon County in the British Colony of North Carolina. Philip found himself living here
on a family farm on Beaverdam Creek just a few miles from present-day Crouse, North Carolina.
BATTLE OF RAMSOUR'S MILL (this tells of Col John Moore, son of Moses Mooore (ancestory of Mary Fannie Smith)
John Moore had joined the British army and was made lieutenant-colonel of Hamilton's North Carolina Loyalist Regiment. He took
an active part in arousing and increasing the Loyalist element in Lincoln County (Lincoln County was formed when Tryon County
was split in 1779). Moses Moore, John's father, made his home on Indian Creek, very near where Philip lived. On June 10, 1780,
Colonel Moore called a meeting of the Loyalists at his father's residence, where about 40 men gathered. Subsequent to this meeting,
he directed those in attendance to meet on June 13th at Derick Ramsour's Mill (located about eight miles from his father's farm in
what is now Lincolnton, North Carolina) and to make ready for anticipated Revolutionary confrontations. Emotions, whipped up, ran
high in the people of the local area where many had long been loyal to King George. By the time June 13th rolled around over 200 Loyalist
men had appeared at Ramsour's Mill, where they commenced grinding grain in anticipation of joining forces with the British in South
Carolina. On June 14th they were joined by many more men and by June 19th the number of Loyalists had grown to approximately 1,200. Philip
Crouse was, without much doubt, among them.
More than 300 of these 1,200 men did not have weapons. They encamped on a hillside ridge about three hundred yards east of Ramsour's Mill.
The ridge had a gentle slope and was open, except for a few trees, for two hundred yards. At the base of the hill, to the south and east,
was a glade, the side of which was covered by bushes.
The Revolutionary forces amounted to only about 400 men and were commanded by Colonel Francis Locke. On June 19th, they gathered twelve miles
from the Loyalist stronghold. They calculated their best chance of success, considering their lesser numbers, was to mount a surprise attack
before their own forces could be detected. So, it was decided they would march all night and surprise the Loyalists at sunrise. It was determined
that a surprise attack, in a situation where the Loyalists would be unaware of the Revolutionaries' inferior numbers, should be sufficient to
rout them. With about 100 men under Colonel Locke mounted, it was agreed that this force would open the attack. The foot soldiers would
follow. Late that evening they marched for Ramsour's Mill.
About a mile from the mill Colonel Locke was met by Adam Reep and his small company of about 20 men. Reep was a noted Revolutionary, although
his neighbors were generally loyal to King George. He gave Colonel Locke full account of the Loyalist position. Armed with this knowledge and
his men spoiling for a fight, the stage for battle was set as dawn broke on Tuesday, June 20, 1780.
The first contact between forces occurred when the Revolutionary Cavalry came upon and surprised a Loyalist picket placed six hundred yards in
an advanced position. The picket fired and retreated to the main camp as the battle escalated. A dense fog covered the area as the Revolutionary
horsemen came in from the east. They rode up within 30 steps and opened fire, throwing the Loyalists into confusion. Those Loyalists without
weapons retreated to the rear and out of the battle scene. The remaining Loyalists, gripping their senses and seeing only about 100 of the enemy
attacking, quickly regrouped and rallied, raining such hot fire that the Revolutionary horsemen retreated back through their infantry. Some of
the Revolutionary infantry also retreated and never returned to the battle. The remaining Revolutionary infantry advanced, firing their muskets,
then stepping back a few steps to reload. As they prepared for their next round of fire, others stepped forward and spent their ammunition.
The six hundred yard charge toward the hilltop entrenched Loyalists had greatly disorganized the Revolutionary line. Seeing an opening for
victory and anxious to take advantage of the Revolutionary forces' disarray, the Loyalist infantry poured down from the hilltop. The Revolutionary
forces quickly filled their own gaps, spontaneously reorganized, and the fighting remained fierce for about an hour. The fire was so deadly the
Loyalists gradually retreated back to the hilltop, and a little beyond, in an attempt to protect themselves from the onslaught. From the
advantage of the elevated position the Loyalists were able to rain bullets on the pursuing Revolutionaries driving them nearly back to
the glade, and then once again the Loyalists advanced partway down the hill.
Shielded by a fence the Revolutionaries were able to commence a galling fire on the right flank of the Loyalists, again forcing a retreat
back up the hill and then further along the ridge toward the summit to their former position. But now a part of the summit was occupied by
the Revolutionaries, and in two instances hand-to-hand battle ensued. Neither side had bayonets, so they struck each other with the butts
of their guns. Men often recognized individuals they knew in the opposite camp and, as they battled even instigated heated banter, at times.
There were no uniforms on either side of the conflict, so to tell friend from foe the Loyalists wore green pine twigs in their hats. The
Revolutionaries didn't make the most intelligent choice for their identification. They wore a white piece of paper or cloth in their hats
so many of their dead where found shot in the head, as the white badge of allegiance provided an excellent long-range bull's-eye target.
In some cases, when things looked particularly dicey a combatant cagily took his identification from his hat and slipped away undetected.
The Revolutionaries had the benefit of preplanning their attack and so when the Loyalists were once again exposed on the hillside, they took
advantage of their preparedness. Their plan, as executed, was to simultaneously flank the left and right of the Loyalists. With vicious fire
from the flanks and pressed from the front, the Loyalist resolve broke and they fled down the backside of the hill toward the mill pond.
Many were picked off as they scattered. Preparing for another attack the Revolutionaries, now gathered on the hilltop, could only muster a
meager 110 men for further battle - but they were not needed. Unaware of the Revolutionaries' inferior strength and, effective command from
Colonel Moore not forthcoming, the Loyalists dispersed.
Seventy or more from both sides died in battle, their bodies strewn over the hill. Of the seventy, about forty were Revolutionaries. Around
one hundred of the men on each side were wounded, some of whom later died.
Colonel Moore and about thirty men made their way to the headquarters of his commander Lord Cornwallis. Cornwallis was not impressed
by Colonel Moore's actions. Moore was put under arrest and threatened with court-martial for his disobedience of orders leading up to
the Battle of Ramsour's Mill. He was finally released.

WHO IS TOM SMITH?
Looking for info about Jimima Smith of Lincoln Co. NC.
she would probably be in the 1860 County census. Thomas Agustus Smith b 8/15/1873 d 11/12/1950. He is my grandfather, and had a brother James and a sister Lizzie-birth order unknown. Would almost say her family lived in the northern part of Lincoln Co. Could she be related to the established Smith's who lived in that area? I do know that my grandfather was born in Cleveland Co. NC.
Could there be something forthcoming from some one out there?

3. Thomas Augustus Smith b. in Cleveland Co.
NC 15 Aug 1873 d. 12Nov 1950 in Burke Co (Broughton Hospital). Buried in
City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville NC. Thomas A. SMITH is my grandfather.
The outcome of this was a male child given the name Ransom WILLIAMS (born in NC according to the various Census.) Ransom WILLIAMS at age 70 appears in the 1860 NC McDowell County, Turkey Cove Twp. Census as the only occupant of household 261, family 261. I beleive this is on page 170 of the Census. After 1860 there is no further record for him.
This part of McDowell County was formed from Burke County after 1831 because Ransom WILLIAMS had a son Ransom H. WILLIAMS who as born in Burke County in June of 1831.
So What?
All this is to say that Ransom H. WILIAMS fathered my paternal grandfather Thomas Augustus SMITH. Ransom H. and Jemima SMITH my paternal great grandmother never married. So we go by SMITH. My ggrandmother roamed Lincoln, Burke, and Cleveland Counties of North Carolina.
In an effort to look into my WILLIAMS heritage a dna test was done. The result being I have a perfect match with Four (4) SKIDMOREs.

Story about Loyalist Phillip Crouse brother of John Crouse: from: http://www.henry.descendants.us/
The Loyalist Pioneer
Philip Crouse was born, about 1760, in the Province of Zeeland in what is now known as the Netherlands. Zeeland is a coastal province
which can be found on modern maps nestled in the southwest corner of the country, sharing its southern border with Belgium. When
Philip was young, presumably with his parents, he emigrated from Rotterdam to Philadelphia around 1763 to 1768.
Philip as a teenager lived on this farm, probably with his parents. The farm consisted of a house with several farm buildings.
Family members were provided their final resting place in the nearby cemetery.
The settlement of Crouse, North Carolina, was established later around 1840, and was named after Dr. William L. Crouse,
a physician. Dr. Crouse is not a direct descendant of Philip. It is generally believed that Philip had at
least two brothers, John and Peter. John Crouse, the direct ancestor of Dr. William L. Crouse, was a farmer in the
Beaverdam Creek and Indian Creek area. He married Sarah Mauney (pronounced moon-knee) and their descendants for
successive generations thrived in the Gaston-Lincoln County area. The other brother, Peter Crouse, also lived in
the same area and married Anna Carpenter. Some evidence points to his occupation as being a gunsmith. By this time
Philip was firmly established as a British subject and he had a second language English, after Dutch, of course.
In the 1770's this area of North Carolina was populated with people who had basically three political views. There
were Loyalists, also known as Tories, interested in maintaining British citizenship. There were Revolutionaries,
also known as Whigs, interested in forming an independent relationship with Britain, possibly as a loose confederation
of colonies. The third political view was held by a large neutral group that really wanted nothing more than to be
left alone. They were much more interested in establishing homesteads and raising families than the politics of a
revolutionary war. Careful checking of public records of the period show many pioneers' sympathies shifted back and
forth between Tory and Whig allegiance as new situations confronted them. Often families were split with brother
and brother, or father and son, on opposite political sides. Apparently, this is the case with Philip and his
family, or maybe to be more fair, Philip was the politically active one, while the others in the family were
more neutral.
When the first shots were fired at Lexington and Concord, it was not at all certain the Revolution would be a
success, in fact, far from it. Many Colonists eventually chose sides for varied reasons. Some, like coastal merchants,
had valuable economic ties to Britain to protect. Others wanted to stay out of trouble and picked whichever side was
perceived to be winning or more popular in the particular area they lived. Many prominent Colonists originally didn't
want to be separate from Britain and wished to be treated the same as British citizens living in the British Isles.
They actually protested to be treated more like British citizens. Some visionaries saw the advantages of independence
from Britain, especially when the Crown established policies that slipped into disrespect and disregard for the Colonists'
well-being.
Philip chose to be politically active as a British Loyalist. What motivated our young teenage Philip to be a Loyalist
could have been a number of things. Being devout Lutheran, his word was his bond. If at any time he took an oath of loyalty
to the British Crown, as often was required, it would be no small event to break his word. Something certainly not to be taken
lightly. There was another interesting influence that swept into the life of young and restless Philip: the tireless Loyalist
promoters Major Nicholas Welch and Philip's neighbor Colonel John Moore.

Johann Michael Propst (1712-1789) original immigrant
http://familytreehelper.org/2012/04/01/johann-michael-propst-1712-1789/
son of Michael is:
Dr. Henry Propst, DVM (http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/20039557/person/887414025/media/1?pgnum=1&pg=0&pgpl=pid%7cpgNum)
I own the land and original house that Dr. Henry Propst bought when he moved his family from Germany to Pennsylvania and then
to Rowan County in 1791. The house has been added onto through the years by his descendants but is still an old farm house with
some original rooms from the log cabin. I didn't know the history of the land/house until two years ago when I re-read family
history passed to me by Mary Propst twenty years ago. The next week after reading and studying I met a man who lives near the
house who began to tell me the history of the land I owned...strange isn't it? One of those weird tales...I had the history for
twenty years, bought the land/house as an investment only to find out after taking possession that a Propst had lived there as
I found old Bibles and school books with the names in it. One of his descendants was the school teacher in that area for years
and years. Then, I meet a neighbor that tells me "the rest of the story". I intend to get the house in a more stable and
restored condition. It hasn't been taken care of and now that I am alone it will take me some time to do what needs to be done.
I am sure that some day you would be interested in seeing it. It is a blessing...two hundred years and we are still there!"
There is a question of Henry's parentage. It is very tempting to believe that he was a son of Johann Michael Propst,
1712, the immigrant, since the time and place of his birth coincides with Johann Michael's family in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
However, the specific date of Henry's birth conflicts with the specific date of one of Johann Michael's children, so either
one or both of the birth dates are in error, or Henry wasn't Johann Michael's son. The latter is assumed. He may have been
born in 1740, in Schwaigern, Wuerttemberg, Germany.
The Cline/Klein family, into which many Propsts had married, holds annual reunions in North Carolina (in 2000, in Newton, NC).
75. Elizabeth "Betsy" [Klein] CLINE was born about 1748 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and died after 1799 in Lincoln County,
North Carolina.132 Elizabeth Cline is a daughter of Sebastian Cline and marries Henry Propst, (per Ciscero Cline). Henry Propst lives
next door to Sebastian Cline and interacts closely with the Cline family, including his attendance at Sebastian Cline's 1794 estate
sale. Sebastian sells some of his Clark's Creek land to Henry Propst in 1775, about the time that Elizabeth Cline and Henry Propst
marry. Henry Propst's will of February 1799 identifies his wife Elizabeth Propst, a daughter Caty Propst and four sons: John, Michael,
Jacob and Daniel Propst. These facts support the presumption that Elizabeth is a daughter of Sebastian Cline.
The Henry Propst family appears in the Lincoln county 1790 and 1800 census. In the 1800 census Elizabeth is listed as
born 1755-1774. Elizabeth appears as widow Propst, born 1750-1760, on page 152 of the Lincoln county 1830 census. These
census entries establish that Elizabeth is born 1755-1760 and the birth dates of her children suggest that her birth date
is about 1755. Elizabeth and Henry Propst live on the 90 acres on Anthony's Branch of Clarks Creek that her father and
mother sold to them on July 22, 1775.
Henry wills to his sons Jacob, Michael, and Daniel Propst 270 acres on Big Pigeon River in Buncombe county. He also wills
to his son John two pieces of land on Clark's Creek, consisting of the 90 acres that Henry obtained from Sebastian (Boston)
Cline and 50 acres that are Henry's by a state grant.
Elizabeth "Betsy" [Klein] CLINE {1.4.7} and Henry [Probst\Brobst] PROPST were married in 1770 in Lincoln (Catawba) County,
North Carolina.133 Henry [Probst\Brobst] PROPST was born between 4 Jun 1738 and 1740 in Berks or Lancaster County, Pensylvania
or possibly Schwaigem, Wuerttemberg, Germany.134, 135 He resided in Cabarrus County, North Carolina on Elks Creek (now Mount
Pleasant) per Bill Brobst, about 1755.136 He appears in the 1790 Lincoln County, North Carolina census with eight individuals
in household137 and was identified as a doctor of veterinary medicine.139 He died on 16 Feb 1799 in Lincoln County,
North Carolina.132 His will provides 140 acres to his son John. To sons Jacob, Michael and Daniel he gave 270 acres.
He owned in State of North Carolina granted him an additional 50 acres. The state of North Carolina granted him an additional
50 acres. He also inherited 90 acres from Sebastian Klein, his wife's father. Henry and Elizabeth settled on a part of the
land entered by Sebastian Klein and Mathias (Bieber) Beaver, on Clark's Creek.

Alice Probst married Lewis Napoleon Rudisill
North Carolina Death Certificate for Alice Isabelle Rudisille states:
Relevant Catawba Notes from here
Now according to traditionary facts John Mull, a brother-in-law to Henry Weidner, married Mary
Anthony. At this point I am not able to say whether she was Paul Anthony’s daughter or his
sister. This is rather a dark mystery to us at this remote age.
Now John Paul had married Elizabeth – and settled on that portion of land now owned by Abraham
Anthony. He never had any children. He gave all his lands and other property to one Daniel
Anthony, a near relative, to take care of him and his wife during their natural lives. I will
speak of Daniel Anthony further on. Philip had married Anna Kistler and settled on that portion
of land now owned by Jacob Anthony and had a son who was the only child they had and called him
Paul after his father. These were also the builders and founders of Grace church and are buried
in the grave yard at Grace church. Paul died in the year 1831, Philip in the year 1825.
Paul Anthony, on Jany. 3, 1831, (Philip’s only child) married Madgalena Rhodes. Their children
were Phillip, Cephas, Abraham, Jacob, Henry, Salena, and Ann. He was a member of the
Lutheran congregation at Grace church and served as an elder a long time. His wife was a member of
the Baptist church. Both are buried at Grace church graveyard.
Philip, the oldest son, married a Miss Corpening of Burke County, where he lived until he died.
Cephas and Henry went to Georgia. Abraham married a Rudisill. He and several of the children are
Lutheran members at Grace church. His wife and several daughters are German Reformed. He has been
a superintendent of the Sunday School at Grace church for several years. Jacob married a sister
of Abram’s wife. He is a member of the Lutheran congregation for a number of years. His wife and
several of the children are Reformed.
Selena married A. K. Finger and settled on the old Elias Jarrett farm formerly Ephraim Shuford’s
farm. They have a large family. Ann, the youngest daughter, had first married a Rudisill, a
brother of Jacob’s and Abram’s wives. He was killed at the late war. He had a son who married
John W. Propst’s daughter. Then sometime afterward she married Pinkney Dellinger, son of Jacob
Dellinger and a descendant of the Henry Weidner family. Then she settled on the old Paul Hartzoke
farm that her father gave to her. She was a member of the Lutheran congregation. Her husband and
the children are Reformed. She is buried at Grace church. "

Given the overlapping dates, I tend to think the two later entries are for the NC Benjamin Biggerstaff
and the two Cunningham Milita units are different Biggerstaff men. See the Moses Moore entry under
Ramsey/Smith above (this and note the Biggerstaff/

Samuel Biggerstaff Sr (b. 1720, d. November 08, 1764) Samuel Biggerstaff Sr (son of Biggerstaff and Biggerstaff) was born 1720
and died November 08, 1764 . He married Elizabeth Moore on November 10, 1741.
Notes for Samuel Biggerstaff Sr:
A weaver by trade who arrived in Philadelphia, PA about 1740. Will dated November 8, 1764 names wife and three sons. Married by Rev.
Johann Casper Stoever, Lutheran Minister of York, PA FRANKLIN'S GAZETTE - DARBY, AUGUST 18, 1740 "Deserted then from Capt.. Thomas
Freame's Company, in the Hon.. Col. Gooch's Regiment, viz." SAMUEL BICKERSTAFF Aged 20 years, 5 Foot 6 Inches and 3 quarters high
without shoes, brown complexion, well-fet, by trade a Weaver, had on a light color'd cut Fustian jacket and breeches, a good hat
and cap & c. and Englishman. Whosoever secures any of the said deserters, and brings them to their Commanding Officer, at Darby,
shall have Forty Shillings reward paid for each; and all persons are to take notice not to entertain or conceal them, on the
penalties inflicted in the Act against Mutiny and Desertion. February 14, 1757, Peter Oyster and wife Mary of Anson Co. agree
to sell to Samuel Biggerstaff "all that land on the north side of the South Fork of the Catobo (Catawba) river opposite the
land shoals... three hundred and twenty acres granted to Peter Oyster by patent on 23FEB.1754. Anson County Deed Book C-1 1755-1759
pages 392-395. April 10, 1760, Samuel Biggerstaff and Joseph Cloud leased from John Sloan of Rowan County his entire plantation
for a period of one year. January 30, 1764, Francis and Martha Beatty agree to sell to Samuel Biggerstaff 400 acres of land on
the headwaters of Paw Creek and Gum branch granted to Francis Beatty by a patent bearing the date of 19APR.1763. November 1764,
Samuel Biggerstaff's will was dated this date. Essentials: (a) To my wife Elizabeth one third of all claims and one third of
the plantation she now lives on in her lifetime. (b) To my son Aaron twelve pounds currency and my 'clothes (c) Next I desire
that there should be a venue of the plantation near the head of Paw Creek and Gum Branch likewise all horses and cow cattle,
likewise all goods and chattels belonging to said escheat and divided equally among my children, after caring for all debts,
Except Aaron for I left him the above and ye wife as above. (d) Next I leave to my two sons Benjamin and Sam'l the plantation
which they now live on the two parts of it till their mother's death . ...and then the whole plantation to be in their hands.
The cash arrangement for Aaron must have been pre-determined for on 19NOV.1764 (Mecklenburg Deed Book 2, page 211) Frances and
Martha Baety of the County of Rowan arranged to sell to Aaron Biggerstaff of the County of Mecklenburg, 320 acres on the
northeast side of the South Fork of the Catobo river on the path leading from the widow Biggerstaff to Derrick Ramsour
...from a patent to said Baety dated 13NOV1764, for twelve pounds currency. The deed was dated the next day, 20NOV1764.
NOTE Samuel must have died between November 8, the date of the will and November 19 when Elizabeth was referred to as the Widow
Biggerstaff. Samuel may have been buried on the property or at one of the early churches in that area. January 10, 1765 -
Governor Tryon issued an order to the executors (Elizabeth and Benjamin Biggerstaff) to settle up the estate of Samuel.
This can be found in the Department of Achieves, Genealogical Section, in Raleigh North Carolina and filed with other
papers in the Biggerstaff family papers. April 1765 - Dep. of Archives Mecklenburg Estates 1765, Box 13. This report
is the inventory as directed in Samuel's will and the vendued action. The inventory sheet lists each item, who bought
it and the price paid. The farm, cattle and goods brought in over 225 pounds and included 8 horses. When we consider
that Aaron got 320 acres for 12 pounds just this part of Samuel's estate represented over 6,000 acres of land in value
in this area. Neither Aaron nor Samuel made any purchases at the sale. Benjamin and wife Mary bought several items.
October 21, 1767 - Mecklenburg Deed Book 4, page 415. Thomas Robinson sold to Elizabeth Biggerstaff for 35 pounds currency
and estimated 300 acres on the first large creek above the path on the north side of Second Broad river including the
first large meadow and joining ... as the said land was granted to the said Robinson by patent bearing date the 16th
November 1764. The original deed for this land was delivered to the Department of Archives for repairs and is also in
the "Biggerstaff File".
