Big Energy $75,000 → $84,000 (Exxon, Chevron, Shell, etc.)
$84,000 + $ for years work experience
2018 continues to be up. They are hiring -- OIL PRICES ABOVE $70 a barrel helps.
Consulting high fifties to seventies (Accenture, Protiviti, Sogeti, Rand Group, etc.)
2018-19 consulting hiring will be better with higher stock market. Many firms are expanding and salaries are up.
Other business areas $52,000 - $70,000 (accounting firms, smaller energy firms, etc.)
2018-19 hiring is likely to be up this year particularly in energy and oil field related companies. Current projects are being worked, and new projects are beginning with the rise in oil prices. Big 4 accounting hiring is expected to continue to be good.
Internships
Internships are available everywhere. This has become a primary component of the recruiting strategy at all firms -- except consulting (they don't normally use the internship model). More and more companies are relying on internships to provide an early 3 month look at new recruits.
A recent email from an MIS alumnus:
Lastly, I strongly believe the MIS program has prepared me for my career...
basically I am the liaison between the business and the tech/dev team. I learn the business process and gather requirements in the planning, analyze, design phases of a project. I also am part of the testing phase of a project. All of this requires a strong understanding of the business and the technology. That line between business and technology and understanding how the two meet is what I learned in MIS.
... when I was reflecting on what I do, I felt MIS prepared me more for my career than any another business degree or a computer science/engineering degree would have.
MISSO students have even better starting salaries. It pays to join.
