Bauer Business Minds: Research for the Real World - C. T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston
Dr. Vanessa Patrick

I am happy to share this edition of the Bauer Business Minds newsletter. Our Bauer Business Focus show on Houston Public Media is onto its second guest: Dr. Elizabeth Anderson-Fletcher, an Associate Professor at the Bauer College of Business and a volunteer firefighter with Cypress Creek Fire Department. In this episode and the related website Liz discusses the mental toughness and resilience that fire fighters need to have, so that they can operate at their very best on days when others are at their very worst!

We also have new work published by Marketing doctoral student Mohsen Pourmasoudi, on the “peer effect”. He investigates the work pressure caused by peers in a collaborative work environment, the effect it has on output, and, offers practical solutions to remedy the problem.

We are gearing up this week for our 2020 Inaugural Doctoral Working Paper showcase and competition. Please do stop by between 9.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb 14 in CBB 328 to support our Bauer doctoral students and check out some cutting-edge business research!

Happy Reading!

How are the mental health needs of first responders being met?

For first responders, another person's worst day has to be their best day. And while firefighters, police officers and paramedics put their lives on the line each day, the issue of how to save their lives isn't often discussed. Elizabeth Anderson-Fletcher, an associate professor with the Bauer College of Business and a volunteer firefighter with Cypress Creek Fire Department discussed the issue.

Bauer Researcher Looks into "Peer Effect" Among Salespeople

Because of the collaborative nature of their jobs, salespeople may be especially vulnerable to peer effect, says C. T. Bauer College of Business doctoral student Mohsen Pourmasoudi, one of the authors of "Measuring Peer Effects in Sales Research: A Review of Challenges and Remedies," published in the Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management (JPSSM).
