Director's Note

As 2024 draws to a close, I find myself marveling at the fact that in a few short weeks the 13th cohort of Bauer in D.C. Fellows will arrive in their new city. Thanks to the vision and support of Bauer College leadership and Bauer alumnus Sam Schreiber (BBA '74), the Bauer in D.C. Fellowship Program has positively impacted our 57 participants over these past 13 years. So much has happened in the world since the inaugural group started their D.C. adventure. Please enjoy the below collection of memories of our Bauer in D.C. Fellow cohorts through the years.

We wish you a wonderful holiday season and happy and healthy 2025.

Favorite Bauer in D.C. Memory:
“One of my favorite memories was having a snow fight on my birthday! Since I grew up in a warm climate, it was my first real snow fight. Even though my birthday outfit wasn't exactly built for snow, it was so fun to feel like a kid again and throw snowballs at my roommates.”

While in D.C., you must …
“Attend as many events as possible! There's always something going on in D.C. The Smithsonian museums have regular events and embassies host great ones too. There are also tons of affordable (or free) concerts, festivals, and outdoor events as well as plenty of great hiking trails nearby. Some of my favorite activities include attending Axios talks - the most recent one I went to was free and even had a senator speaking - and enjoying outdoor concerts during the summer.”

How Bauer in D.C. changed your future goals or trajectory?
“My Bauer in D.C. experience is what made me fall in love with the city. I had visited D.C. a couple times before but living there was a whole new experience. It's such a walkable city, and I loved having easy access to cultural events and opportunities to network with impressive professionals. I always knew I wanted to live in a city other than Houston, but it wasn't until my Bauer in D.C. semester that I realized D.C. was the place for me. I hope future students in this program that get to experience the city also gain a new perspective. As a Bauer in D.C. mentor, I love sharing my experience and supporting students as they figure out their next steps after college.”

Since Bauer in D.C. …
“After graduating college, I began pursuing a career in federal consulting with a focus on grants management. As we transition into a new administration, I'm curious to see how this will impact the industry. One of the main reasons I chose this field is to be “in the room where it happens”. There's a lot of speculation about what may change and while it's hard to know for sure, I enjoy being in the front lines, watching democracy unfold, and seeing how administration priorities trickle down.”
