JIT at Chrysler
JIT also caused changes in the way other Chrysler divisions conducted business:
Sales and marketing analyzed data and created forecasts to stabilize schedules for assembly-line car production so exact production schedules governed assembly. This enabled suppliers to know which parts to send and when to send them.
Manufacturing and engineering helped assembly plants implement the in-sequence building concept. A car that entered the assembly line in-sequence production remained in position and was not removed until it was completed. Cars maintained their rigid sequence for predictability and forecasting.
