Telephone Networks
Voice call multiplexing means combining more than one telephone call on a high speed circuit
Switching is a methodology that eliminates the need for direct wire connection between all station pairs in a network (used to connect telephones or entire data communication networks)
In circuit switching the central switch site (usually the telephone company’s central office) establishes a connection between two devices (telephones or computers), and messages go directly from one telephone to another.
In store and forward switching, if one of the devices is busy, the central switching site stores the incoming message from the sending device, and retransmits that message to the destination when the device becomes available.
Digital data switches (digital cross connect switches) provide users with a way of switching between different host mainframe computers (manages traffic and sets up inbound and outbound queues during periods of peak usage)
