Telephone Networks

• Digital matrix switches combine technologies used in T-1 multiplexers, PBXs (switchboards), and circuit switches. They are used to change connections between ports such as on a front end processor.

• Network switch is a stand alone switch which

  • typically has 12 or more communications circuits that operate at different speeds.

• should be able to support various types of networks
• should be expandable to handle more communications circuits
• should be able to dial and receive calls automatically
• should be able to switch messages between any of its circuits
• should have deliver /verification/confirmation features
• should provide storage for at least 500 in-transit messages
