Fringe Benefits

Fringe benefits are defined as compensation to employees in addition to their direct wages. Some examples include medical insurance, paid holidays, matching retirement contributions, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, employee assistance programs, etc.  Many of these benefits cause additional expenses to the university and the college, since they are paid for above the cost of employee salaries.

ORP Matching Limit

Post 1996 ORP participants limit is $225,000.00

Pre-1996 ORP participants limit is $291,029.70

Estimating the Cost to UH of Fringe Benefits

When trying to estimate the cost of benefits for a full time, benefits eligible position, the current percentage to multiply by is 30%.  For example:

Annual Salary      X           1.30       =            Total annual cost of the position and benefits

$30,000                X           1.30       =            $39,000.00
