Business Cards

Business cards must be printed according to the guidelines set by the college.

All titles must be correct.  With dean’s approval, it is possible to use a working title that is different from the official job title, but it must not be one that exists in the HR system.

Students may be allowed to have business cards when helping with special projects that require them to have a business card.  The cards must identify them as students.

Non-UH Employees Business cards can be issued to volunteers and donors who are working on behalf of the university and would be useful to them in the commission of their work for UH. The title donor or volunteer must be on the card.

The general mailing address for the Bauer College should be reflected on business cards:

University of Houston

C.T. Bauer College of Business

              334 Melcher Hall

              Houston, TX  77204-6021

If you wish to put the employee’s room number on the card, please insert it to the right of the word hall, for example 334 Melcher Hall Room 260A

An authorized Bauer logo should be printed on the back of the card, in accordance with the college's graphic standards [pdf]

Computer Resources

While limited incidental use of computing resources for personal reasons is acceptable, please review the official computing policy from Central IT.  BCB's definition of "limited incidental use" is for short periods of time on activities such as weather and traffic reports, email or new sites, etc.  Any activities that result in personal profit, monopolize bandwidth or obstruct/delay official BCB business is strictly prohibited.

Key Control

For security of assets and other sensitive documents, there will be strict control of the allocation of keys. Full-time and half-time benefits eligible faculty and staff will be authorized to obtain keys for their office as well as the suite front door key.* If a student (TA, TF or ASA) is requesting a key, the faculty supervisor must sign the key request form prior to it being forwarded to the dean's office.  Keys requested by student organizations which are housed on the first floor of Melcher Hall, must be approved by the student activities advisor. Key requests should be forwarded to the Dean's Office for signature

* The first set of keys will be issued at no charge to the employee. It will be the employee’s financial responsibility for any duplicate or additional keys due to misplacement or loss.

Letterhead and Envelopes

Please use the following guidelines when ordering new stationery and envelopes.

For all Bauer College letterhead, the Bauer logo (either black & red, or black) will appear in the bottom left hand corner of the letterhead and on the rear flap of the envelope. Official logos can be viewed here. [pdf]

The official UH header can be customized with the department name under C.T. Bauer College of Business along the left margin.

The general mailing address for the Bauer College should be reflected on letterhead and in the top left corner of the envelope as:

University of Houston

C.T. Bauer College of Business

              334 Melcher Hall

              Houston, TX  77204-6021

Office Supplies

Each employee should be a responsible steward of college and state resources by only ordering and utilizing supplies necessary to complete their required job related duties in an efficient fashion.

UH encourages all employees to do business with Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) vendors whenever possible.  These are businesses that have been historically underutilized because of their identification as women or as members of certain minority groups, including Black Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Pacific Americans, and Native Americans who have suffered the effects of discriminatory practices or similar insidious circumstances over which they have no control

A list of HUB vendors can be found here. [xls]

Telephone Equipment and Long Distance Calling

All telephone equipment incurs a monthly rental cost.  Display and multi-line model phones are more expensive to rent than basic, single line phones.  Departmental budget constraints should be taken into account when deciding which model to order or continue to lease.  Instructions regarding the functionality of ROLM phones can be found on pages 2-4 of the UH phonebook.

Some staff positions will be assigned long distance codes.  These codes are assigned to individuals and should not be shared.  They are used when making long distance business related phone calls from on campus.  These codes may only be used to place business related long-distance calls, no personal phonecall expenses are allowed.
