Cemo Hall Preview Tops Alumni Meeting Agenda, Goes Green
Published on July 20, 2009
Alumni enjoy last year’s annual meeting. This year’s event promises to be just as exciting, with a presentation on the expansion of Bauer College.
Alumni, friends and supporters of UH Bauer College of Business will celebrate a year of success and look to the future at the annual Bauer Alumni Association meeting that will be held at 6 p.m. on August 20 in Melcher Hall.
The yearly event has become a college tradition, sharing success stories and the remarkable progress Bauer and its alumni association make each year. In the past, the event has drawn standing-room-only crowds and inspiring speakers.
“The annual alumni meeting is one of the best kept secrets in Houston. It’s the premier event to reconnect with the college and friends and to find out what is happening at Bauer,” BAA President Matthew Houston (’02) said. “The annual meeting covers the accomplishments of the last year and showcases what is in store for 2009-2010.”
This year, the college will recognize a group of Bauer Champions — teams and individuals who have participated in the Bauer Champions Scholarship Campaign — as well as the dedicated board members of the alumni association. Bauer Dean Arthur Warga will recognize the college’s tremendous program success over the past year.
“Growth of alumni involvement these past few years is truly making a difference and creating opportunities for alumni and students alike,” Director of Alumni Development John O’Dell said.
On this year’s agenda, Theadora Batchvarova from BNIM Architects, a design firm known as a pioneer in the sustainable building movement, will give a presentation on special features of Michael J. Cemo Hall, the second Bauer College building.
“Everyone’s excited about the steel going up on Bauer’s new building, Cemo Hall,” O’Dell said. “We’re all looking forward to the architects presenting the vision of the three-building complex planned for the college.”
Cemo Hall, a 33,000 square-foot building, will house the Global Business Minor program and the Rockwell Career Center. The two-story building will have classrooms, a lecture hall and an auditorium.
