Bauer College Welcomes 26 New Faculty for Fall 2022

New Tenure and Non-Tenure Track Faculty Experts in Finance, Marketing and Accounting

The C. T. Bauer College of Business is adding 26 new faculty members to its ranks this fall. The cohort includes longtime business professionals as well as leading academic scholars with research interests ranging from marketing to financial economics.

“These impressive new additions to our faculty allow us to continue to offer leading-edge education that is founded on research and grounded in the real world,” Dean Paul A. Pavlou said. “Through our world-class faculty, Bauer students gain knowledge to shape the business world of tomorrow, consistent with our 'The Future is Our Business' mandate.”

The 26 new faculty are both tenure track and non-tenure track. The group provides diverse experience from the business world and scholarly research, Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs Praveen Kumar said.

“We continue to recruit faculty who can contribute to the Bauer College strategic objective to be a top-ranked business school,” Kumar said. “Our new tenure-track faculty bring exciting research agendas to contribute to the college’s research accomplishments and they will also contribute to our teaching mission, while professors of practice will share their industry expertise in the classroom.”

Steffen Hitzemann

Assistant Professor
Department of Finance

Steffen Hitzemann comes from the Rutgers Business School, previously as an Assistant Professor of Finance. His research interests include macro-finance, asset pricing and derivatives markets. A central part of his work focuses on the financial economics of energy and climate change.

He received his Doctorate in Finance from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.

Martin Kramer

Assistant Professor
Department of Marketing & Entrepreneurship

Martin Kramer comes from the Ruhr-University Bochum, previously as a research employee in the Sales Management Department. His research interests include personal selling and sales management, organizational frontlines, monetary and non-monetary sales incentives and servitization and solution selling.

He received his Doctorate in Marketing and Sales from Ruhr-University Bochum in 2018.

Linette Marie Rousseau

Assistant Professor

Linette Rousseau comes from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, previously as a primary instructor and course coordinator. Her research interest includes auditing.

She received her Ph.D. in Business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Jinghui (Jove) Hou

Assistant Professor
Department of Decision & Information Sciences

Jinghui (Jove) Hou comes from Florida State University, previously as an Assistant Professor of Communication. The driving force behind Hou’s keen interests in information systems is a commitment to finding theory-driven ways to develop technologies that promote self-beneficial and pro-social behaviors. Her current research pertains to artificial intelligence, IT- mediated markets, and theory building that incorporates machine-learning.

She received her Doctorate in Communication from the University of Southern California.

M. Mahbub Hossain

Assistant Professor
Department of Decision & Information Sciences

M. Mahbub Hossain joins Bauer as a Presidential Frontier Faculty of Healthcare. Hossain has academic and research expertise in health information systems, meta-research methods, mental health informatics, and evidence-based decision-making. His current research emphasizes evidence-based applications of digital health technologies to address psychosocial health disparities.

He completed his Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University and his Doctor of Public Health from Texas A&M University.

Bowen Luo

Assistant Professor
Department of Marketing & Entrepreneurship

Bowen Luo holds a Ph.D. in Marketing from University of Rochester, a Master in Economics (with Distinction) from Tilburg University, and a BS in Mathematics (First Class Honors) from University of Hong Kong . Her research on quantitative aspects of marketing has been published in Management Science, and she has won the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS) Mary Kay Dissertation Proposal Award and the Institute for the Study of Business Markets (ISBM) Doctoral Dissertation Award.

Cheryl Baldwin

Professor of Practice
Department of Management & Leadership

Cheryl Baldwin comes from the CUNY Research Foundation, previously as the Assistant Dean/Chief of Staff for Workforce Development. In addition to joining Bauer as a Professor of Practice, she also serves as the Executive Director of Executive Development.

Baldwin received her Doctorate in Ethical Leadership from St. Thomas University.

Robert Edward Brant, Jr.

Professor of Practice
Department of Accountancy & Taxation

Rob Brant served as Senior Consulting Partner for Ernst & Young (EY) from 2004 until his retirement in 2022. He is a qualified financial expert for the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors by virtue of his long-standing Board experience, broad business acumen, and status as a certified public accountant (CPA).

Brant also held several leadership roles while at Ernst & Young. He has served as the EY National Risk Leader for the Retail, Manufacturing and Distribution Sector as well as the Oil & Gas Sector. Brant has also served as the Southwest Regional Risk Internal Audit Leader and the Southwest Regional Risk IPO Leader.

He received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston in 1997.

Thomas Goudie

Tom Goudie is Co-Founder and President of NOVAE Energy, LLC – an energy development company providing CHP & solar solutions for end-users in select markets and facilitating turn-key direct-connect solutions for large industrial natural gas customers since 2015.

He also co-founded Refund Logistics, a data processing company providing electronic audits of corporate FedEx & UPS accounts. This company was sold to AFS Logistics in 2019.

Prior to Refund Logistics, Goudie founded Houston Energy Services Company (HESCO). In 1997, HESCO purchased a natural gas distribution system in South Texas. After upgrading and operating the system for eleven months, HESCO sold the system to Entex. The company also built and commenced operations of a natural gas pipeline connecting an industrial facility to MidCon Pipeline in Fort Bend County.

Sheldon King

Sheldon King served as Chief Technical Tax Counsel at ExxonMobil Corporation from 1994 to present. During his time at ExxonMobil, he was involved in design, implementation, and maintenance of the company’s international organization structure. He also conducted internal training courses and mentored other tax attorneys.

He received his Master of Business Administration at the University of Michigan, and his JD from Harvard Law School.

Andra Olivia Miljanic

Instructional Assistant Professor
Department of Management & Leadership

Olivia Miljanic has served as a Bauer faculty member since 2010 and as director of Global Studies since 2012. In this role, Miljanic has overseen the undergraduate curriculum for international business, has worked with undergraduate students on globalization related research, and has led study abroad programs to Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria, France, and Germany.

Miljanic holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, with specialization in the areas of comparative political economy, Latin American politics, and methods; and an A.B. in Public and International Affairs from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, with a specialization in Latin American studies. Prior to joining the University of Houston, Miljanic taught and conducted research in Latin America, Europe, and Southeast Asia. She is proficient in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian, French, German, Italian, and Serbian.

Gregory Wyne Neely

Gregory Neely is an accomplished business professional with over 31 years of financial, internal audit and trade credit experience. Valued for ability to interact with Executive Management and Board Members of a Fortune 100 company to tackle tough business issues, develop sound strategies and successfully lead implementations.

He currently served as Vice President of Internal Audit for Sysco Corporate, responsible for all audit functions of the company globally, including the assessment of all internal controls, the evaluation of business processes and the measurement of risks.

Joe Pogge

Joe Pogge is owner of Pogge Marketing, where he serves as a consultant on branding, marketing, public relations and event marketing.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in marketing from the University of Houston, and serves as a board member for the Holocaust Museum of Houston.

Siddharth Rajmohan

Department of Finance

Sid Rajmohan is a seasoned business leader in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) space with 15 years of experience supporting real-world projects and programs aimed at reducing environmental impact and improving project sustainability.

Rajmohan most recently served as an Area Managing Partner at a Top-Tier Global Sustainability Consultancy with over 6,000 employees in 40 countries, where he was responsible for working with senior business leaders at client organizations to develop innovative solutions to complex global, national, and local ESG challenges.

Yara Suki

Professor of Practice
Department of Marketing & Entrepreneurship

Yara Suki is a professor and the director of the Program for Excellence in Selling at the C. T. Bauer College of Business. A graduate of the Honors College at the University of Houston, where she studied Marketing and Management. She was also a member of the Program for Excellence in Selling, the nation's leading sales program, where she received 225 hours of live sales training and served as an Assistant Program Manager.

In October 2015, she began work at Mattress Firm as a Communications Specialist where she managed internal communications that reached over 11,000 employees. In 2017, she returned to UH to be a Program Manager for the Bauer College of Business's Program for Excellence in Selling where she managed 150 students each semester as their sales leader and helped them achieve their goals, both personally and professionally.

As the Director of PES and in addition to her previous responsibilities, she oversees the recruiting, events, sales, and marketing efforts for the Program for Excellence in Selling at the Stephen Stagner Sales Excellence Institute.

Masim Suleymanov

Professor of Practice
Department of Finance

Masim Suleymanov earned his Ph.D. in Finance at Florida Atlantic University. Suleymanov defended his dissertation titled “Two Essays on Government Contracting and Venture Capital Investments” and completed all the Ph.D. requirements in May 2022.

He has taught Principles of Financial Management, Advanced Managerial Finance, Financial Institutions, Cases in Financial Management, and Investment Analysis courses in College Business Florida Atlantic University since August 2018.

Suleymanov is currently working on several research projects on alternative investments, government-corporate contracting, small business lending, mortgage lending, and bond ETFs.

John Welch is a banking professional with 30+ years of sales and management experience with financial institutions. He currently serves as Director and Market President for Citi Bank’s Gulf Coast Region, where he leads the sales, relationship, and credit management for a team of relationship managers.
