Bio

Christopher Small is an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Houston. Professor Small's research focuses on examining the role of information disclosure in capital markets. He is interested in the characteristics, determinants, and economic consequences of companies' financial and non-financial information disclosures. He is particularly interested in applying natural language processing and machine learning techniques to analyze financial and narrative disclosures and their effects on investment allocations and asset prices. His research has been published in the Journal of Accounting and Economics. Professor Small serves as an ad hoc reviewer for Contemporary Accounting Research, Management Science, and the European Accounting Review. Before joining the Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, Christopher was an Assistant Professor of Accounting at the University of Toronto and served as co-editor of the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation. He received his doctorate from the University of Iowa and his masters from Harvard Business School. Prior to academia, he worked as a manager at Deloitte.
