Daniel Currie
Professor of Practice
Bio
Daniel Currie is currently teaching three classes to Undergraduate students: Business Law and Ethics, Introduction to Organizational Behavior and Management, and Current Issues in Management. All are offered asynchronously throughout the year. He was formerly the Director of the Bauer College's GEMBA program, an energy-focused MBA program delivered in Beijing, Urumqi, Dubai and Houston. Dan has been teaching in the Bauer College since 1994. Among others, he has taught International Environment of Business, International Marketing, Business Ethics for Accountants, Business Law and Ethics and Introduction to Organizational Behavior and Management.
Apart from teaching in the College, Dan has trained thousands of supply chain professionals and managers throughout the United States. He has designed and delivered in-house training for, among other companies, Shell Oil, Lexmark Intl., Compaq Computer, Micron Computer, Auto Alliance (Mazda/Ford), ITT Automotive, J.C. Penney and Solvay Polymers on a variety of topics that include contract law, business law, negotiation, and supplier selection and measurement.
In addition to teaching, Dan managed the $7 million dollar project to build the AIM Center for Investment Management in the College. Building on the success of that project for the College, he oversaw another $5 million renovation that transformed the student experience in the Bauer College with expanded services and a more comfortable, collegial learning environment that was completed in December of 2005.
Prior to coming to the Bauer College of Business, Dan practiced law in Toronto, Ontario in a corporate/commercial/real estate practice. And before that he spent six years in the industrial supply business in a variety of positions culminating in outside sales, selling to customers that included Ford, Chrysler (as it then was) and General Motors.
Dan received his law degree (LL.B., 1983) from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario and his MBA (1991) from the University of Houston. Following his MBA, he has participated in executive level courses aimed at improving specific skill sets including Project Management, Operations Management, Forecasting and Negotiation Skills for Managers.
On a personal note, he is married to Dr. Debra Currie, a (retired) faculty member at the UH College of Optometry and they have three sons and one perfect grandson. For fun, he plays pickleball, cycles, and is a former president of the Space City Cycling Club. His TA for Bauer classes is a highly reactive Golden Doodle named Kona. Don't come too close.
