Dusya Vera


Dusya Vera is a Professor of Strategy in the Department of Management & Leadership. She received her Ph.D. in Business Administration (Strategic Management) from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University in Canada. She earned an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and a Computer Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Guayaquil, Ecuador, and also pursued graduate work at the Martin Luther Universitatet Halle-Wittenberg in Germany. || Dr. Vera's research is in the areas of strategic leadership, leader character, improvisation, and organizational learning. She has published in top academic and practitioner publications such as the Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, The Leadership Quarterly, Organization Studies, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Dynamics, Business Horizons, and Management Learning, among others. She is currently an Associate Editor of The Leadership Quarterly. She has served on the Editorial Board of journals such as The Academy of Management Review, The Academy of Management Journal, The Leadership Quarterly, Management Learning, and IEEE Transactions of Engineering Management. She is a member of the Academy of Management and the Strategic Management Society. || Dr. Vera is an award-winning teacher over the years, teaching courses at the undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and executive level in the areas of strategic management and strategic leadership. At the C.T. Bauer College of Business, she is the recipient of multiple awards including the Melcher Awards for Excellence in Research, Teaching, and Service. She received the University of Houston Distinguished Leadership in Teaching Excellence Award in 2017, the University of Houston Teaching Excellence Award in 2011, and the G.R.E.A.T. Excellence in Teacher Award (given by EMBA graduating classes) three times. She also received the University of Houston Group Award in 2018 as part of the team that delivers the Study Abroad Trips in Management & Leadership. She has taught in programs in multiple international locations including Ecuador, Colombia, Canada, Spain, and China. || Prior to pursuing her doctoral studies, Dr. Vera's industry experience was in the financial and IT sectors in Latin America with organizations such as the Guayaquil Stock Exchange, the Pacific Bank, and Consulconti Consulting.
