Sana (Shih-chi) Chiu

Bio

Dr. Sana Chiu joined the Department of Management & Leadership at C.T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston in 2017. She was born and raised in Taiwan, before migrating to the United States in the late 1990s. Dr. Chiu received her Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She earned an M.A. in Telecommunications Management from Michigan State University and completed the Executive Program in Board Governance from Harvard Business School.

Dr. Chiu's research lies in the antecedents, processes, and outcomes of corporate sustainability, stakeholder management, and corporate change/restructuring strategies , with a special focus on strategic leadership and decision-making . Her research works have appeared in several leading Management journals, including the Academy of Management Annals, Journal of Management, Journal of Applied Psychology, Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Business Ethics, and Journal of Management Studies, among others. Her conference papers and journal publications have been nominated and won Best Paper Prizes . She was a recipient of Elizabeth D. Rockwell Research Award in Ethics and Leadership from the Hobby School of Public Affairs.

Dr. Chiu has served in leadership roles in professional organizations. Currently, she is the Representative-at-Large for the Social Issues Management Division (>2,000 members) in the Academy of Management. She serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Management and was the recipient of Outstanding Reviewer Award of the Strategic Management Society in 2023 and 2024. Dr. Chiu is also an award-winning educator, with extensive teaching experience in undergraduate, MBA, doctoral, and Executive Education in top business schools in Asia and North America. She has been recognized for her teaching and is the Teaching Excellence Award Finalist at the University of Houston. She is also the recipient of the 2024 Lucile and Leroy Melcher Excellence in Teaching Award at C.T. Bauer College of Business.

Dr. Chiu is a CFA-certified Sustainability Professional in ESG (Environment, Social, & Governance) investing. She also holds an FSA Level I Credential from the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).
