Shona Smith

Bio

Shona G. Smith, Ph.D., is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston. She earned her B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Christopher Newport University, her MBA from East Carolina University, and her Ph.D. in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Her research seeks to understand and improve the experiences of historically underrepresented and marginalized communities within the workplace. Across her research, she explores how discrimination affects marginalized individuals and seeks to identify factors that may lessen its negative impact. Additionally, she is interested in how marginalized individuals navigate their visible and concealable identities while at work. Lastly, her research centers practice that individuals and organizations may use and incorporate as allies in the workplace to aid in the reduction of bias, discrimination, stigmatization, and racism. Her research on these topics has been published in quality journals such as the Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management Review.
