The Department of Management & Leadership in the Bauer College aspires to be the top choice for students seeking undergraduate, MBA and doctoral degrees in management & leadership.

Our programs cover both micro areas of management – organizational behavior, leadership, and human resources – and macro areas of management – strategy, strategic leadership, and organizational theory. The goals of our management curriculum are to develop strategic thinking, leadership skills, ethical decision-making capabilities, and critical reasoning and problem-solving skills in the context of real-world business.

Students at all levels gain relevant knowledge of management & leadership theory and practice from excellent scholars. The management & leadership department faculty members are recognized as outstanding scholars, award winning teachers, and renowned experts in the field of management & leadership.

Strengths

Over the last decade the Department of Management & Leadership has become a trail-blazer in the area of Leadership. The department also focuses on Inclusive Leadership and is home to some of the top Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion scholars in the world, including Derek Avery, Juan Madera, and Enrica Ruggs. The department offers 18 different courses in the areas of leadership and inclusive leadership. We offer certificates in Leadership, Healthcare Leadership, and Inclusive Leadership as a component of the MBA program and a leadership track for undergraduates. The department is one of the leaders of the University in online education, experiential learning and learning abroad. Our students have the opportunity to join learning abroad trips to locations such as Berlin, Singapore, Croatia, and Panama.

Faculty

The faculty publishes in the top journals in their fields such as The Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Strategic Management Journal, and Academy of Management Review. They serve in editorial roles and on editorial boards of the leading journals in their fields. The department’s faculty have published more than 50 papers in the area of leadership in the last decade. Seven of the department’s faculty have been Editors or Editorial Board Members of The Leadership Quarterly, the world’s top academic leadership journal, including Leanne Atwater who served as Editor in Chief. The management & leadership faculty members have been selected as Fellows of the Academy of Management and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Most of our faculty have won University level teaching awards.
