Students from the Wolff Center recently were invited to spend almost a full day with famed investor Warren Buffett at the Berkshire Hathway headquarters.
For the third time in as many years, the University of Houston’s entrepreneurship program has been named one of the top two undergraduate programs of its kind in the country by The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine.
The Cyvia and Melvyn Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship at the C. T. Bauer College of Business has established itself as a premier program for students interested in launching businesses. Such programs have become more and more popular, and the Wolff Center’s focus on developing entrepreneurial skills by exposing students to successful business leaders (mentors, speakers and faculty) has resulted in hundreds of student success stories and the #2 spot among the best 25 undergraduate programs in the United States.
The center was named #1 in 2008 and earned a #2 ranking in 2007. The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur survey a total of 2,300 schools, and WCE bested programs at the University of Arizona, Baylor University and other respected schools for 2009. Babson College was #1 for both undergraduate and graduate level entrepreneurship programs. Click here to view the complete list.
Melvyn Wolff (’53), who with his wife Cyvia is the namesake of the UH Bauer program, recently spoke about accompanying WCE students to Berkshire Hathaway headquarters at the request of famed investor Warren Buffett. The students spoke with Buffett, joining students from other select schools such as Harvard, MIT and the University of Chicago.
Bauer College’s Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship is again receiving national attention with its ranking on a national list recognizing the best undergraduate entrepreneurship programs in the nation.
“Our students stood up tall,” said Wolff, chairman of the board for Star Furniture, a Berkshire Hathaway company.
Executive Director Daniel Steppe said the WCE students are unequaled for demonstrating “enthusiasm, skills and entrepreneurial spirit.”
“We are honored to once again be recognized as one of the best undergraduate entrepreneurship programs in the country, and we look forward to continuing to grow and expand an already outstanding program,” he said.
Thirty-five students are selected to participate in the UH Bauer Entrepreneurship B.B.A program each year following a rigorous application process. Each brings a business idea with them into the program, creating and shaping a business plan throughout the duration of the program and presenting it to a group of venture capitalists during the final semester.
Nearly 2,000 students are enrolled in the Corporate Entrepreneur Certificate program, making Bauer’s the largest program of its kind in the U.S.
