Bauer alumna Ashley Sutton (BBA ’09) recently published a book focusing on work-life balance, inspired by her personal experiences working overtime.

An alumna from the C. T. Bauer College of Business recently published a book about work-life balance, inspired by her personal experience working overtime.

Ashley Sutton graduated from Bauer College in 2009 with an undergraduate degree, double majoring in entrepreneurship and finance. Her book, “Overtime is SO Over,” addresses the complications that can come from working extra hours with little to no rest and offers practical advice for readers on how to maintain a healthy work-life balance and avoid burn out.

“I was burning the midnight oil and started to see my health and energy decline,” Sutton said. “I surveyed friends and colleagues and found that we were all in some way, shape or form driving ourselves into destruction by working unfathomable hours. I channeled these stories into the ‘Overtime Is SO Over’ narrative.”

She added: “Working crazy long hours with very little ROI in your personal life will either drive you insane, or light a fire to make some serious change.”

Sutton used the knowledge she learned at Bauer’s Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship as she pursued her self-publishing journey. She said she knew to look for professional partners when it came to designing her book’s cover, for example.

“One of my entrepreneurship professors always said that you have to know your strengths, and whatever skills/resources you lack, you should get them outsourced, rather than wasting time trying to do it alone.”

Sutton’s future plans include promoting her book through public relations and marketing campaigns, as well as speaking engagements at corporate workshops.
