More Than 1,000 Bauer Students to Cross Stage at NRG Stadium

On May 10, the C. T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston will recognize more than 1,000 students during a commencement ceremony at NRG Stadium.

More than 1,000 graduating students from the C. T. Bauer College of Business were recognized on May 10 at the college’s Spring 2018 Commencement Ceremony, featuring a keynote address from Rahul Mehta, founder of the Bhupat & Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation.

The ceremony began at 6 p.m. and was held in NRG Stadium. (For logistical information on the event, including parking, student check-in and guest information, click here.)

This semester’s graduating class includes candidates for bachelor of business administration degrees, as well as those completing graduate (MBA, Executive MBA and MS) and doctoral business programs. Bauer College Dean Latha Ramchand will honor the degree candidates with remarks.

During the ceremony, University of Houston System Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and UH Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Paula Myrick Short bestowed an honorary degree to Mattress Firm Executive Chairman Stephen Stagner, namesake of Bauer College’s Stephen Stagner Sales Excellence Institute.

Rahul Mehta

Rahul Mehta created the Bhupat & Jyoti Mehta Family Foundation in 1998 with the objective of empowering people through philanthropic activities focused on education, children, and healthcare. The foundation funded the creation of the School of Biosciences at the Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, India and an engineering research center at the University of Houston. In addition, it provides educational loans to students, medical research and child welfare projects in multiple countries.

Prior to focusing on philanthropy, Mehta was involved in high technology. Previously, he started four software companies which were later acquired by Computer Associates, HP, Symantec, and Brocade. Mehta has led the successful creation of several companies in multiple technology areas by recognizing and addressing market needs very early in their lifecycle.

Mehta, is active or served on the board of DePelchin Children’s Center, Ronald McDonald House, Bo’s Place, Krist Samaritan center and the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.
