Basheer Khumawala

Bio

Ph.D., Purdue University, 1970, Industrial Administration. Professor Basheer Khumawala's teaching areas are production operations and logistics management. His research interests include facilities location, manufacturing and distribution planning, and application of heuristics. Prior to joining UH in 1978, Dr. Khumawala served on the faculty at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has served as chair of the Management Systems and Strategy department and as President of the MS/OR Society of Houston. He is also active with several academic and professional societies such as Decision Sciences Institute and The American Production and Inventory Control Society, and is on editorial boards of national and international journals. Currently he chairs the committees of Large and Small Manufacturing in the Houston Quality Awards Programs. Publications have appeared in Management Science, Naval Research Logistics Quaterly, AIIE Transactions, Journal of Operations Management, Production and Inventory Management, Sloan Management Review and others. Associate Editor of Production and Operations Management. Honored in 1993 with the award of the Fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute.
