David Flame is an educator, transformational business leader and corporate entrepreneur expert in building, scaling and leading complex global businesses. He is adept at assessing and innovatively aligning technology with business needs to create market opportunity and competitive advantage. His expertise includes building, scaling and leading complex global businesses with P&L responsibility, achieving challenging tactical and strategic goals, driving change, maximizing growth and bottom-line contribution in global markets.
With extensive experience building/rebuilding high-performance global organizations and aligned cross-functional teams, Mr. Flame creates a results-centric culture of execution, accountability, customer success and values. He is skilled at crafting the people, process, knowledge, and infrastructure to support hyper-growth and short and long-term performance with unique expertise spanning sales, marketing, product development, product management, operations, mergers & acquisitions for software, hardware, SaaS, cloud and consulting markets.
Mr. Flame currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Marketing Strategy and Planning in The University of Houston's Department of Marketing & Entrepreneurship, C. T. Bauer College of Business, leveraging his real-world expertise to introduce the core business processes and critical thinking utilized to develop marketing strategies and tactics and deploy those strategies and tactics to achieve business goals. He previously served as Adjunct Professor of Professional Selling in the Information Technology Industry in The University of Houston's Program for Excellence in Selling, C. T. Bauer College of Business.
Mr. Flame served as the Group Vice President leading Oracle Corporation's Linux and Virtualization Global Sales Unit, responsible for maximizing Oracle's long-term share and growth in the strategic Open-Source Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps business segments, including global revenue generation and customer success. His organization was charged with defining go-to-market plans, building channels to market, driving customer growth while ensuring client and partner success through deep domain knowledge, global sales and technical critical mass with intense focus on maximizing mutual return and minimizing mutual risk for customers and partners.
Mr. Flame was Oracle's Group Vice President leading the global Mergers & Acquisition Go-To-Market organization responsible for assessing the go-to-market dimensions of all Oracle acquisitions and tracking long-term acquired business performance. He concurrently led Oracle's Global Solutions Centers, eleven customer-centric Data Centers providing technical and architectural proofs of concept, proof of technology, and at-scale benchmarking. He also led business operations for Oracle's Industries Business Unit, the global organization setting go-to-market strategy and accelerating sales productivity for Oracle product and industry solutions.
Before his work with mergers and acquisitions, Mr. Flame was the Group Vice President and General Manager leading Oracle's Global Sales Units, where he was responsible for accelerating global revenue for strategic products in key segments: data security, legacy modernization, collaboration, enterprise search, risk analytics, and enterprise visualization. In addition, Mr. Flame also established Oracle's Technology Global Sales Support business unit chartered in 2005, where he led the establishment of new global businesses, led the transformation of Oracle's Technology Competitive Intelligence organization and was responsible for the Oracle/IBM Joint Solution Center in Montpellier, France.
Mr. Flame's nineteen-year leadership at Oracle directly contributed to the tactical performance and the long-term success of each of his business lines. His expertise includes general and process management, transformational consultative and financial selling strategies, technical project management, and product and field marketing. In addition, he has been a leader in product development and the innovative packaging of subscription services, enterprise software, hardware, consulting, and financial solutions.
Over his career, Mr. Flame has provided expertise in aiding Global 1000 clients in building the teams, processes, and infrastructure required to deliver continuous business and IT process improvements. Before Oracle, Mr. Flame held senior sales, general management, and brand management leadership roles with IBM, Xerox, BMC Software, BindView, and Alphablox corporations.
Mr. Flame currently serves as a Mentor for the Kinkaid School's Entrepreneurship Incubator Program, Gordy Family Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Finance. He is also a guest lecturer for the Texas A&M University Mays Business School, Reynolds and Reynolds Sales Leadership Institute.
Mr. Flame has served for 14 years as a Board Member and Vice-Chair for the City of West University Place, Texas, Building and Standards Commission and two years as the Commissioner and Vice-Chair for the City Parks and Recreation Board and Facilities Task Force. He served on the Building and Grounds Committee for Duchesne Academy, acting as the Board of Trustees' technology advocate. He facilitated Oklahoma City's Re-engineering Government Initiative and served as a founding member and mentor for the University of Texas Crew.
Mr. Flame is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, holding a B.B.A. degree in Marketing Management.
