Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships

Bauer Excellence Scholarships (BES) are four-year, undergraduate-level, renewable scholarships. These scholarships are available to incoming freshmen who qualify/meet specific criteria.

Scholarship Criteria

In order to be considered for a Bauer Excellence Scholarship, high school students must:

  • Apply for admission to UH for the fall semester immediately following high school graduation.
  • Be admitted into UH and the C. T. Bauer College of Business
  • Have a Critical Reading + Math SAT score of 1450 or above, or 32 ACT Composite score (students who apply test optional and meet all other criteria may also be considered)
  • Be ranked in the top 10% of their high school class (or individual application review if school does not rank its students)
  • Complete your application for admission, including the submission of all supporting documentation (application, application fee, official transcripts, and test scores), by the priority date.

How do Students Apply?

Qualified students who are admitted to the C.T. Bauer College of Business by January 1st for the following fall will be contacted by email with application instructions. Invitations to apply are typically sent early in the spring semester for the following fall.

Question:  What if I receive other scholarships from UH? How does that impact my Bauer Excellence Scholarship?

Answer: The answer depends on the type of scholarship(s) and amount awarded.

  • If you receive a UH sponsored scholarship totaling less than $13,000 per year, your Bauer Excellence Scholarship can be added to that award.
    Example: You are awarded a UH Academic Excellence Scholarship in the amount of $6,000 per year and a Bauer Excellence Scholarship in the amount of $7,000 per year. These can be combined for a total of $13,000 per year in combined scholarship award money.
  • If you receive a large University-Funded Scholarship in excess of $13,000 per year (such as Tier 1 or National Merit) or a Terry Foundation Scholarship, this scholarship will replace your Bauer Excellence Scholarship.
    Example: You are awarded a UH Tier 1 Scholarship covering full tuition, as well as room and board. Your Tier 1 Scholarship will replace your Bauer Excellence Scholarship.

Question:  Once I accept my award, when will I see my Bauer Excellence Scholarship in my UH online account?

Answer: The Bauer Excellence Scholarship will not be added to your MyUH online student account until after you have attended UH New Student Orientation and have enrolled into classes at UH. Please rest assured that your Bauer Excellence Scholarship will appear on your record before the tuition due date, which is typically in mid-August.

Question:  By accepting my award, am I committing to attend UH as a business major?

Answer: Yes, if you accept the Bauer Excellence Scholarship, we will assume you are planning to attend UH as a business major beginning in the upcoming fall semester.

Question:  What if I have not made my decision by the May 1st deadline?

Answer: We understand that deciding on which college to attend can be a tough decision. One of the best ways to decide if UH is right for you is by taking a tour of the University of Houston. Question:  What if I change my mind about my major? Can I still get the Bauer Excellence Scholarship if I change my major to something other than business before I start at UH, or later on in college?

Answer: Only business majors are eligible for the Bauer Excellence Scholarship. Thus, if you change to another major outside of the business school (either before you begin college or at any point in your UH/college career) you can no longer be awarded the Bauer Excellence Scholarship.

Question:  What if my tuition or fees increase at UH, will my Bauer Excellence Scholarship amount also increase?

Answer: No, your Bauer Excellence Scholarship is a fixed amount and will not change. To ensure your tuition rate stays the same for all 4 years, we encourage you to investigate the UHin4 Fixed Rate Tuition Plan.
