Preparing for the Big Day
Commencement is a celebration, a culmination of years of hard work toward your degree. There are several steps to complete before you can participate in the commencement ceremony.
Commencement Checklist for
Master's or Doctoral Degree Candidates
Step 1: Eligibility deadlines
If you are receiving a Master's or Doctoral degree and wish to participate in the commencement ceremony, you need to have completed the appropriate paperwork on time.

Monday, April 1, 2024 - Friday, September 27, 2024 - Regular Filing Period
(see filing graduation page). - Saturday, September 28, 2024 - Friday, October 25, 2024 - Late Filing Period
Step 2: Update your personal information in PeopleSoft
Review your personal information at access.uh.edu, and update as appropriate - local and permanent address, phone number and email.
Step 3: Ph.D. Candidates - Confirm your Dissertation Chair Attendance
The individual who will be hooding you must confirm their attendance and order their regalia via Mary Gould by Friday, October 25, 2024.
Step 4: Ordering Regalia
Students participating in commencement must arrive with regalia. Please place your regalia order thru the Herff Jones site. All online orders must be placed by Monday, November 18, 2024.
Orders placed after the deadline date will not be guaranteed to arrive on time for the commencement ceremony. For questions regarding regalia purchase, call the UH Bookstore at (713) 741-7095.

Cougar Sprit Cords:
Make a minimum $10 donation (perhaps a gift in honor of your class, $20.24) to any college or program of your choice and wear the cord at commencement to show your Cougar Pride!
Diplomas
- Diplomas are mailed out by the Office of the University Registrar approximately 60 days following the closing date of the semester. If you can see in PeopleSoft that your degree has been posted but your diploma is overdue, please call the Office of the University Registrar at 713-743-1010 option 7. If your graduation status still says "Pending," then your degree has not yet been posted.
