Internships & Careers

Internships and career support

Bauer students have a strategic advantage of going to a university in the heart of the Texas economy. The Department of Accountancy and Taxation at Bauer has a close partnership with industries and accounting firms in the Houston area. Bauer accounting students are among the most highly recruited students in Houston by large public accounting firms. And those lessons learned inside and outside of the classroom stay with them, as evidenced by the Bauer accounting alumni who have risen to the top.

Our department holds Career Fairs for BBA Accounting, PPA, CAP, and MSACCY students every Spring and Fall semester. In addition to the Career Fairs there are multiple mini-mixers held throughout the semester. Students participating in this recruiting process are seeking an internship or full-time position. Although the internship period may vary by each company, accounting firms generally interview interns a year in advance for the following Spring semester. Most often, this translates to interviews during Spring of junior year for internships held during Spring or Summer of senior year. Industry companies primarily recruit in the Fall for Summer internships.

For undergraduate students, the networking and recruiting process begins early – often as early as sophomore year for summer leadership programs. MSACCY students are encouraged to start building their accounting network as early as possible in their graduate career. Any student intending to get an internship must work with their career counselor in the Rockwell Career Center to ensure their résumé is polished before a recruitment event.

BBA Accounting and PPA undergraduate students may have their internship count for a credit towards their degree requirements. Please visit our Internships for Credit page for eligibility requirements.
