BUMP Up Your Game with the Bauer Undergraduate Mentor Program
Bauer College offers a mentor program called the Bauer Undergraduate Mentor Program – BUMP – for short, in partnership with an organization called Mentor Collective. Think of a mentor as a member of your “board of advisors” for your company, “Me, Inc.” You may have more than one mentor for different reasons, and you may have mentor relationships that last a short time or a lifetime. BUMP is designed to provide mentees with a guide as they transition to college or to career, so BUMP provides two versions of mentor matches tailored to fit your needs.
How it Works
Matching Process
- Students who want a mentor complete a short survey about themselves and their backgrounds.
- Mentors complete a short survey and a one-hour training (best done in one sitting) to prepare them with resources and guidance on mentoring. Upon completion of the training, mentors receive a certificate they can post on LinkedIn.
- Mentor Collective matches mentees and mentors based on what they say is most important to them in the survey.
Meeting after Matching
- Once a match is made, mentees decide with their mentor how they want to connect, which can happen via email, phone, video chat, text, or in-person.
Time Commitment
- The program starts this Fall, but students can join at any time throughout the academic year. It ends in May, but mentors and mentees are more than welcome to stay connected after the program formally ends. Mentors who are graduating in December may continue with their mentee as an alum or they can notify Mentor Collective to reassign their mentee to another mentor.
We recommend that mentees connect with their mentor at least once per month.
Flags
During mentoring meetings if topics arise beyond the scope of the mentor, they can send a flag that routes to a trained Bauer College staff member for follow up with the mentee to get them in touch with additional college and university resources as needed.
Registration
Below are registration forms for mentees and mentors for these two mentoring programs. Select the one that fits your profile and needs. Declared business majors can be both a mentor for Pre-business students with BUMP for College Success and a mentee with BUMP for Career Success. For students under 18, please email Frank Kelley at fwkelley@uh.edu to request permission to participate.
Email to Use: For UH Bauer College students signing up to be mentees or mentors, it is important to use your UH cougarnet email since that will be the means to identify you as a UH Bauer College student. UH cougarnet emails end in ...@cougarnet.uh.edu. If you are an alumni or college partner and not a current UH Bauer College student, you may use your own email when registering to be a mentor.
BUMP for College Success
BUMP for College Success matches Pre-business students with declared business majors, who have been in their shoes and who know first-hand what it’s like at Bauer College!
Mentees (Pre-business Majors)
To get started, register and complete a short survey telling us about yourself. Depending on what characteristics are important to you in a mentor, we'll match you with someone that has a similar background and/or shares common interests.
You'll be able to discuss your experiences at school and beyond with your mentor, as well as access resources that build resilience.
Mentors (Declared Majors)
If you are interested in being a mentor, all you have to do to get started is register! Then you will take a short survey that will help make the best match, and a one-hour training (best done in one sitting) to prepare you with resources and guidance on mentoring. The mentor match will run through May, but student mentors who are graduating in December can continue with your mentee as an alum or you can notify us to reassign your mentee to another mentor.
BUMP for Career Success
BUMP for Career Success matches declared business majors with alumni and college partners, faculty, or staff with real world work experience who can help with the next step as students prepare to transition from college to career.

Then you will take a short survey that will help make the best match, and a one-hour training (best done in one sitting) to prepare you with resources and guidance on mentoring. Note: for college partners, faculty, or staff who are not UH alumni, in answer to the survey question about your graduation year, you can enter the year you graduated from high school or whatever college you attended, or 2050 as a random year, since that is a required question (data will only be used for alumni who respond).
