Expected Learning Objectives

Upon successfully completing this course, students will:

  • Students will develop problem solving and analytical reasoning skills by solving problems individually and within group projects, being challenged to go beyond simply calculating results.
  • Students will develop critical thinking through analytical arguments by explaining why results occurred and how results are affected by business assumptions.
  • Students will communicate business results and analyses with clarity and precision, presenting quantitative results using visualization techniques.
  • Students will develop business “storylines” by explaining results, action items required, and success metrics.
  • Students will learn a variety of mathematical programming languages and software to build a structured model to solve complex optimization problems.

Selection of Topics Covered:

  • Data visualization techniques
  • Advanced multiple regression
  • Advanced time series forecasting
  • Problem modeling processes
  • Advanced mathematical programming
  • Advanced linear and integer optimization models
  • Advanced non-linear optimization
  • Inventory planning models

Course Pedagogy and Immersive/ Experiential Activities

Students utilize current programming and software technologies to answer complex supply chain management questions.

Students are provided with course notes, textbook resources, lectures.

Grades are typically determined by performance in a series of Practice Problem Sets that progressively cover the course material, three extensive business modeling projects, and three exam assessments.
